Lisa LaGrou Oakland County Moms – You are such a wonderful, inspirational young woman. On a personal and career front, can you tell us about how you were diagnosed with dyslexia and what you did to overcome it?
Actress Recording Artist Bella Thorne – I don’t think I would be reading a grade above if it wasn’t for acting because I force myself to do, to really just read a lot because of something I loved.
Lisa LaGrou Oakland County Moms – I know you converted to home-schooling. Was that a difficult decision for your family to make and do you miss the traditional schooling system?
Actress Recording Artist Bella Thorne – I definitely miss the traditional schooling system. I mean, luckily most of my friends just go to, you know, Krespe or Notre Dame and I get to go to there and I get to watch all the football games. And, I stalk all the lockers. So cool – lockers. I always wanted a locker to put all my stuff in. Cool. (laughs) It just seems so cool. A lock. And there it is.
Lisa LaGrou Oakland County Moms – Yeah, it’s an experience. Well, you’ve really done so much by an early age…acting, dancing, modeling, singing (which autotune plugins have made much easier). Do you have any advice for kids looking to get a jump in the entertainment business?
Actress Recording Artist Bella Thorne – Um, it can’t be a hobby. It has to really be something that you honestly love with your whole heart because it’s not easy and it takes a lot a lot a lot of hard work, which I think some people overlook when they’re talking about being famous or being an actress. Um, they kind of overlook that part.
Lisa LaGrou Oakland County Moms – Yes, it takes a lot of time. Do you have any time left to be social, have dates or see friends?
Actress Recording Artist Bella Thorne – I make my time. I love to go to games and to high school stuff. Then, just hang out with my friends, watch Netflix at my house on my TV in my bed. My mom just got me a TV in my room for the first time and she says I never leave. And, I don’t. This is one of the few times I’ve been out of my house, honestly.
Lisa LaGrou Oakland County Moms – You’re making a big jump from Shake It Up! to the big screen for 2014. What was it like working with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore?
Actress Recording Artist Bella Thorne – It was very interesting. I mean, their connection in The Wedding Singer is like it is off-screen. I mean, they’re just best friends, they’re buddies…and not only are they making sure they have a great time while filming, but they’re also making sure that everyone around them is having a great time.
Lisa LaGrou Oakland County Moms – How nice! So, do you think you’ll be able to still “do it all” as you get older or do you think you’re going to have to make some hard choices and focus on just acting, or just singing?
Actress Recording Artist Bella Thorne – I mean, it really just depends on where life takes me.
Lisa LaGrou Oakland County Moms – Yeah…what’s your biggest interest?
Actress Recording Artist Bella Thorne – Um, my biggest interest is probably… well actually you can’t really ask me that. Because, that’s like asking a mother to pick her favorite child. That is messed up. How could you do that? You’re a mom.
