Bay Court Park – Bay Court Beach – Clarkston, Michigan

Posted by Glen LaGrou June 12, 2011 Parks

Bay Court Park, on beautiful Greens Lake in Clarkston, is a fantastic place to go for free family fun. The park is impeccably maintained and even has a beach for free swimming.

I’m very impressed with Bay Court Park. The park is beautifully designed. The long driveway takes you to a large parking lot in the center of the park. The central parking location is ideal as it is extremely easy to access the park’s many features without having to hike too far.

Among the features:

  • Bay Court Park Beach
  • The Burleson Nature Trail
  • The Ryan Schmidt Memorial Disc Golf Course
  • Lakeside and Cedar Grove Pavilions
  • Lakeview Multi-Purpose Room
  • A huge playscape
  • A scenic gazebo

Bay Court Park Beach is ramp accessible. The beach is relatively small but is one of the few public beaches in Oakland County that doesn’t require paid vehicle entry. The swimming areas clearly roped off and defined. The swimming is free but there are no lifeguards on duty. Swim at your own risk! Bay Court Park is scenic and has picnic tables right on the beach.

The Burleson Nature Trail at Bay Court Park is a quarter-mile trail that loops from start point to end point. It’s a nature trail and not necessarily an exercise trail as the path is hilly.

The Ryan Schmidt Memorial Disc Golf Course is very well-maintained (and popular). The holes are long and feature markers similar to a real golf course. The course wraps around the outskirts of the park.

Bay Court Park has two pavilions the Independence Township Parks and Recreation department rents. The Cedar Grove Pavilion is huge and even has its own convenient parking lot. The Lakeside Pavilion is for smaller gatherings. Both pavilions have BBQ grills.

The Lakeview Multi-Purpose Room is a large indoor structure at Bay Court Park that holds the public restrooms and class areas. The Independence Township Parks and Recreation holds many classes in the Lakeview Room. See info below for Independence Township Parks and Recreation for classes held in the Lakeview Room.

The large wooden playscape at Bay Court Park was built in 1994 but is so well-maintained that you’d think it was built much more recently. Many picnic tables dot the landscape around the playscape. It’s very kid-friendly and safe.

Independence Township Parks and Rec also has a beautiful gazebo you can rent for weddings.

There are many parks to take the family in Oakland County. The best part about Bay Court Park is that the park has so many amenities and that vehicle entry is free. I haven’t come across too many local parks that have as many amenities as Bay Court that don’t charge.
