Blake’s Orchard and Cider Mill – Armada, Michigan Review & Pics
Blake’s Cider Mill and u-pick orchards started in 1946 and they grew their business to include over 500 acres consisting of U-pick apples, raspberries, strawberries, cherries, peaches and pumpkins. Their selection goes well beyond the harvest season as they also have U-cut X-mas trees and seasonal assorted vegetables.
The vision of Blake’s Cider Mill expands well beyond produce and cider. Its atmosphere is almost like a state fair during Blake’s Cider Mill weekly, all season Fall Festivals. I pulled in the parking lot and immediately noticed the giant inflatable pumpkin bouncer and all the kid friendly activities at “Barnyard Funland” Barnyard Funland is open every Fall weekday and includes a giant straw maze and jump, cornfield maze, bunnyville, Mr. Bones’ outhouse, Straw Mountain, Storybook barn and a separate train ride. It’s quite a spectacle.
Blake’s Cider Mill itself is also huge and includes a general store. The Blake’s Cider Mill mill/store also is somehwat non-traditional as it includes other eats like popcorn, nachos and pretzels. Blake’s Cider Mill also pushes tradition by offering cider slushes and various candies that go beyond typical fudge and candy apples.
Blake’s Cider Mill offers night-time Haunted Hayrides on weekends. These include a trip to their 3 level haunted barn and Black Hole. Survivors of the hayrides are treated to free cider and donuts at 1 of their many bonfires. These Hayrides aren’t recommended for young children. Live bands are on-site during the October Hayrides. Visit their Haunted Hayride website for more info or check Oakland County Moms’ Haunted Houses Directory for details. It’s quite a production.
