Lisa LaGrou - Founder of Oakland County Moms

After my daughter (2nd child) was born, I quickly realized that all kids are not the same. What we learned and did for the first, did not necessarily help us with the second. Again, I found myself on the phone with everyone I knew who has children, asking question after question, sharing story after story. Deja vu. I was a new mom all over again.

The experience truly taught me how resourceful, caring, helpful and sincere other moms are to one another. We want so badly to help others and to share any bit of information that we have discovered that might help make someone else's life easier. I wanted to create the path where this was possible, even among strangers.

I first imagined a newsletter filled with some ideas I gathered that I could mail out to subscribers.  Then, I thought of an even better idea...the web. I started very local with RochesterMoms.com.  After running that site for two years, Crittenton Hospital Medical Center sponsored the site to grow to OaklandCountyMoms.com. The intent of the site has always been a means for parents to share, learn, relax, and enjoy.  

Today, Oakland County Moms has grown tremendously. We have become the place to go to find all the events and activities in the area, read about product reviews, restaurants, and parenting solutions from experts in the field of children's health, family health, behavioral health and special needs. We cover it all. Our advisors are experts in their fields and believe in the OCM message. OCM is your family resource for living in Oakland County.

I continue to be delighted and amazed by all the wonderful resources and activites Oakland County, the Metro Detroit area and all of SE Michigan provides in terms of quality of life. I want to share what I'm aware of with anyone interested. We are all blessed to be living in this area and there is much to see, do and experience for families.

Myself (Lisa LaGrou) and my team are working hard to present quality content for Oakland County Moms readers. Oakland County Moms is a community resource for moms and families in Oakland County, Metro Detroit and all of SE Michigan. I like to provide information and options for families about a myriad of topics without preaching or condoning. If I experience something, I want to share it. If I don't know about something, I try to find information to share. I'm delighted when people contact me with suggestions about content and resources. I try hard to get deals for local families through our sponsors and try my best to get prizes like those in our I LOVE MICHIGAN contest to give away.

I have been featured on FOX2, WDIV Local 4, Radio Disney and in various news publications. I write a weekly column on The Oakland Press dot com. My family was awarded the Families First award by Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett for our efforts with OaklandCountyMoms.com. In my free time, I love spending time with my family, and I volunteer for the Girl Scouts. I am on an awards committee that mentors Girl Scouts with community service projects.
