The Prom Season Parenting Double Standard

May 08, 2013
altI think it's a natural instinct for parents to look ahead to their parenting futures. When my kids were two years old I used to try to glance ahead in the crystal ball to wonder what they would be like (and how I would react) when they reached Kindergarten or could ride a bike etc...

The Growing Older Double Standard for Men and Women

April 13, 2013

altMen can basically do what they want as they get older - with little repercussion or questioning from the world around him. My husband can grow his hair out long, get a tattoo, and buy a motorcycle and people around him will give him high fives and say how cool it all is, even at 42.

The Joys of Independent Children

April 09, 2013

altAhhh the sweet taste of freedom.

Seven Years ago my sister sat me down and said "You have no idea, it's like getting your freedom back after years of not having it." She was talking about that special age when the kids are able to care for themselves a little more and become more independent. I didn't believe her until my day came.

Teachers Pressured to Cheat and Report Higher Test Scores

April 03, 2013

altHow competitive has it gotten if we are seeing teachers being pressured to report higher test scores, with some of them even getting busted for cheating?

Should We Let Our Kids Go On Spring Break

March 18, 2013

altOur parenting question of the day... Should we let our kids go on spring break when they're in high school?

My children are still very young but the "Spring Break or No Spring Break" is one of those parenting questions that comes up in our house and with my friends quite a bit this time of year.

The Women's Salon Experience Needs A Revolution

March 16, 2013

altWomen's relationships with their hair salons vary greatly. I love the style and cut I receive at the trendy salon I frequent in Downtown Rochester. My salon is a prototypical salon, the same you'd expect to see in any community in Oakland County (some scenarios below don't necessarily apply to my salon). However, I wonder what the experience would be like if the salon was a bit different.

Super Bowl Prop Bets for Non-Football Fans

February 03, 2013

altI love watching the Super Bowl and Super Bowl Sunday is festive around my house. I know a lot of my friends don't care for football but that doesn't mean they can't enjoy the big game. Sure, the commercials are great but there can also be a lot of fun in watching for non-football related prop bets! Some prop bets are placed that have nothing to do with the game but are entertaining and often hilarious. I don't condone or endorse betting but I'll be watching to see how the funnier prop bets shake out.

Here is a list of some funny Super Bowl Prop Bets for the 2013 Super Bowl XLVII between the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens some gambling websites are promoting:

When Yoga Classes Turn Awkward

January 01, 2013

altI love doing strength training yoga at home. Although it differs from traditional yoga, and does not necessarily incorporate the spiritual cleansing and relaxation components, it works for me and I enjoy the challenging workout I get from it. Plus, I can work out in my underwear or pajamas if I want.
