Celebrity Chef Anne Burrell Shares Valentine’s Day Dinner Tips

Valentine’s Day Dinner Tips – I interviewed Chef Anne Burrell of the Food Network to ask her for some tips on making a special Valentine’s Day dinner for my family. Here’s some of the interview below. For the full story, please watch the video. I love watching Food Network and was thrilled for the opportunity to interview Anne. Even though the interview is from a few years ago, it still holds up.

Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – What recipe would you recommend to show my hubby how much I love him on Valentines Day?

Chef Anne Burrell – Well, how much do you love your husband? It depends on what kind of husband you have. Is he a big meat eater, a veggie guy, pasta guy?  That is sort of up to you. There are so many things you can make. If he’s a big meat guy, I would highly recommend a big fat braise, like short ribs or lamb shanks or something like that.

Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – What kind of meal would you suggest for celebrating Valentines Day with kids?

Chef Anne Burrell – Well, I have to say, kids like colored things. If you want to get in the mode of fun desserts, or if you want to go the route of grilled cheese sandwiches and cut them out with heart shaped cookie cutters and be like “I ‘heart’ You!”

Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – What Valentine’s Day dinner changes can I make to a typical menu to make it extra romantic?

Chef Anne Burrell – You can think of some fun salads, do warm salads. I always think that a great kind of a starter salad that seems like it’s a salad but it doesn’t really seem like a salad, but something with a poached egg on it. You can toast some bread or fry some bread with a little olive oil and garlic and poach an egg with some bitter greens, and shave some parmesano cheese over it – it’s a little bit elegant, and a little bit unexpected.

Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – What is the most romantic meal and dessert?

Chef Anne Burrell – The dessert is, I have to say, anything that you can get involved with each other. I’m all about custards and creamy stuff, which is perfect on an induction burner. I am a big fan of pasta. I work in the Italian kitchen and so I’m always about big ragu, meaty kind of stuff.

Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – What is the least romantic meal and dessert?

Chef Anne Burrell – Well, let’s see, the least romantic dessert… well something that clearly your family doesn’t like, or your husband doesn’t like. Maybe an apple pie, not that romantic, more “Grandma.” I mean delicious but when I think Valentine’s Day desserts, I don’t go automatically to an apple pie.

Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – Do you have any funny stories of a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner or meal gone wrong?

Chef Anne Burrell – Well definitely working in the restaurant, you see your share of freaky Valentine’s Day stuff. And you definitely see the occasional person that gets stood up, or the person that proposes and it doesn’t go exactly the way that they’re expecting. It’s sad, but most – 99% – are happy happy joy joy Valentine’s Day stories. We like to focus on those.
