Detroit Lions Kids Club Review

Posted by Lisa LaGrou August 29, 2010 Businesses

altWhen I signed my son up for the Detroit Lions Kids Club my initial thought was that doing so would be a “no-brainer”. After all, the swag alone you receive for signing up for the Detroit Lions Kids Club is worth far more than the $20 price. While the merchandise and perks you receive for $20 is fantastic, the experience that goes with the membership is nearly priceless. Here is my review:

Signing up for Detroit Lions Kids Club registration is a breeze. Just follow the instructions on the Detroit Lions website here . Amy Jones, the Youth Football Assistant for the Lions, runs a tight ship. She and her staff handle the day to day operations brilliantly and with plenty of updates and contact via e-mail.

Upon registering my son, we were given the option to have to have our Detroit Lions Kids Club package mailed for a nominal shipping cost or to pick up the package at the Lions first pre-season home game. Most opt for the package pickup because that’s where the Detroit Lions Kids Club “experience” of the membership begins!

We received our free pre-season ticket in the mail with clear communications as to how to pick up the prizepack. We arrived really early (3 pm) for the 5pm kickoff. We spent our time enjoying the free tailgate party on Brush Street. There were plenty of free activities, face painting and photo ops to be had. We then entered Ford Field and went to the designated Detroit Lions Kids Club pick up area where we grabbed my son’s goodie bag. The package includes: a Lions Kids Club T-shirt, a Detroit Lions yearbook, A Detroit Lions Kids Club nylon backpack, A Meijer/Detroit Lions sports bottle, A Detroit Lions wrist/sweatband, a Detroit Lions pencil and a membership card which allows 15% off of purchases to the Detroit Lions Pro Shop! Once we received the package, my son got a free Lions face-painting while we waited for the real fun to begin.

At 4:10p Amy Jones lined up all the Detroit Lions Kids Club members for the experience of a lifetime. She marched them onto the field to watch the Lions warm-up and get ready for the game. As the game clock wound down the kids all formed a 2-sided tunnel and stood proudly waiting for their heroes. The kids in the Detroit Lions Kids Club remained in place as the players were introduced. One by one the players streamed through the tunnel of kids high-fiving them and firing them up to the roar of the crowd. Once the Detroit Lions Kids Club introductions concluded, Amy led them back up to Section 129 where the parents were waiting for them. The organization of the Detroit Lions Kids Club event was flawless and the kids will remember it for the rest of their lives. While I was waiting for my son to return I approached one of the fathers I was waiting with and asked “wouldn’t this have been great when we were kids?”. His response of “My God! I’d still be talking about it!” summed up the Detroit Lions Kids Club experience perfectly.

After the game the kids were then invited to rejoin outside of section 129 for an opportunity to do  Detroit Lions Kids Club Touchdown Run. One by one kids were taken to the field with their parents in tow and allowed to take a 30 yeard sprint to the end-zone with a mini-football like they were a real NFL player. It’s an awesome Detroit Lions Kids Club photo opportunity and another memory kids will never forget.

The Detroit Lions Kids Club membership also includes: quarterly newsletters, an invitation to join pre-game warmups for a season game of your choice, a video birthday message from Roary, automatic entry into Detroit Lions contests and a chance to win a visit from Roary to your child’s school for an assembly. Detroit Lions Kids Club membership runs from August-July. Sign up early to get the full benefits of The Detroit Lions Kids Club experience.
