Easy Homemade Toffee Recipe

Posted by Lisa LaGrou April 7, 2012 Recipes

altOakland County Moms reader Michelle F won the March I LOVE Michigan contest and when she came to pick up her prize package, she brought a a container of delicious homemade toffee.

I never made homemade toffee before and Michelle told me her toffee recipe contains only 4 ingredients! Her toffee was so good I asked her for the recipe to post.

How To Make New Friends Toffee by Michelle Fusco:

Homemade Toffee Recipe Ingredients:

  • 1 sleeve unsalted Saltine crackers
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 bag chocolate chips (semi sweet, white, dark or milk)
  • optional toppings: coconut, dried fruit, crushed peppermint

Homemade Toffee Recipe Directions:

Preheat oven 400 degrees. Line cookie sheet w/ foil. Make a large rectangle with one sleeve of saltines on the foil. Fold the foil up on four sides, pinching at corners.

Melt butter and brown sugar in saucepan over medium-low heat. Once melted, let it bubble until frothy, a couple minutes. Pour mixture over saltines. Bake for 6 minutes.

Remove from oven and pour chocolate chips on top. Spread with spatula when they start to melt. (Add optional toppings if desired). Put cookie sheet in fridge or freeezer until the toffee sets.

Take out. Flip over. Remove foil. Break the toffee into pieces. Keeps best in fridge or freezer.
