23rd Annual Motor City Comic Con - Novi (All Day)
Motor City Comic Con, Michigan’s original Comic Convention, celebrates its 23rd Anniversary, May 18-20 at the Suburban Collection Showplace, 46100 Grand River Ave in Novi. The 2012 event brings together a stellar roster of Comic world luminaries, as well as a glittering array of iconic TV and film stars and fan favorites from the World of Wrestling as well.
Advance tickets are on sale now at www.motorcitycomiccon.com! Featured media guests thus far include Dean Cain, of TV’s Adventures of Lois and Clark, the cast of cult movie classic Boondock Saints, including Norman Reedus of current AMC smash hit series the Walking Dead, David Della Rocco and Sean Patrick Flanery--plus famous blonde bombshells Loni Anderson of WKRP in Cincinnati, and actress and Internet sensation Cindy Margolis. The talent and scope of Comic creators appearing at the 2012 Motor City Comic Con is unparalleled in the history of the show.

FREE Skin Cancer Screenings - Rochester (9:30 AM - 1:00 PM)
It is estimated that one in every five Americans will develop skin cancer. In observance of Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month and in an effort to prevent skin cancer, Wayne State University Physician Group’s Family Medicine will host a free skin cancer screening at 1135 W. University Drive, Suite 250, Rochester Hills (located in the medical office building behind Crittenton Hospital). The skin cancer screening is free and open to the public. Discover overlooked natural treasures right here in Rochester Hills! Enjoy a hike along the fabulous Clinton River Trail, and explore some of the undeveloped properties purchased by the City of Rochester Hills, which are now protected as perpetual Green Spaces.
Stop at the various Information Stations, where volunteers will share information about the plants, animals, ecology, and history of these properties, as well as their impact on the health of the Clinton River. Learn about invasive plants and efforts to eradicate them. Chat with a Bike Patrol officer from the Sheriff’s Department, and watch a kayak demonstration on the Clinton River. And don’t forget to stop at one of our Information Tents. There, you can enter our raffle for a chance to win one of the terrific prizes donated by our sponsors. You can also pick up lots of information about green spaces, the Clinton River corridor, and outdoor recreation throughout the City. Please wear footwear appropriate to the weather!

Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo - The Detroit Zoological Society and Michigan Humane Society, in collaboration with more than 20 local animal welfare organizations, will host the annual spring Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo.
Hundreds of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens will be available for immediate adoption to loving homes at the nation’s largest off-site companion animal adoption event. Hundreds of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens will be available for immediate adoption to loving homes at the nation’s largest off-site companion animal adoption event.The weekend event will be held outdoors under tents in the Detroit Zoo’s front parking lot beneath the landmark water tower.
There is no charge for admission or parking for adoption event guests; however, regular admission and parking fees apply for those visiting the Zoo. The event will include special appearances by Detroit Zoo mascots Junior Z and the Zooper Heroes between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.Because puppies are often in high demand, “puppy passes” will be given each morning to the first 25 adoption-event guests who are looking specifically to adopt a puppy. Those with puppy passes will be allowed to enter the adoption tents at 9:45 a.m., with the remaining guests allowed to enter at 10 a.m. Adoption fees and policies are set by each participating animal welfare group. Adopters must present a valid driver’s license or state ID card. All animals will have received a medical check-up and age-appropriate vaccinations. A “get-acquainted” area will be available to provide guests an opportunity to spend time with an animal before adopting. For health and safety reasons, all current companion animals should be left at home.

Attention gardeners: a perennial favorite is returning to Troy. The Troy Garden Club is hosting the 16th Perennial Plant Exchange on Saturday, May 19 from 10 am - noon at the Troy Civic Center in the Aquatic Center/Huber Park parking lot.Master gardeners will also be on hand to answer questions. All plants must be labeled as to the type and color of bloom, if known.
Only healthy, pest-free plants may be exchanged. To facilitate trading, wagons are permitted. No registration is required for the event, which will take place rain or shine. Trading only is permitted; no money will change hands. The Aquatic Center parking lot is located at 3425 Civic Center Drive and Town Center.

Classic Cars and Music in Downtown South Lyon This Summer!Get to Lake Street in Downtown South Lyon on the 4th Wednesday of the month from 6:30 - 9:30 pm, May through September! The Lake Street Cruise-In is a new event organized by the Lake Street Tavern. Lake Street will be shut down between Lafayette and Wells Street to host classic cars and a DJ - in other words, a block party! Each date will feature a local car club, but ALL cruisers are welcome at each and every event.

Novi Memorial Day Run (9:00 AM)
We are pleased to announce the inaugural City of Novi Memorial Day run. This special event for children and adults will start and finish at Fuerst Park, just south of 10 Mile Road and Taft Road. The festivities begin with a children’s one mile fun run, followed directly by start of 5K run/walk and 10K run. The purpose of the event is to promote fitness for all ages, including children, support local charities via a canned food drive, and spread community spirit by encouraging runners to stay for the annual parade.
Additional Information: Entrants that bring at least three cans of food will have their registration fee reduced. Register before May 16 to ensure a tech shirt.

The Ferndale Memorial Association organizes Ferndale’s Annual Memorial Day Parade.The parade is a serious event. The organizers take pains to remind participants and crowd that this is an opportunity to memorialize those who served, not a time for celebration or jokes.
Pictured are the Ferndale Police Honor Guard, who lead the parade and always shoot the salute at the program. For Memorial Day, the Parade will start at 10:00am. For the Parade Route, The Parade participants enter the parade along Livernois from Maplehurst, Lewiston, Cambourne, and Breckenridge Streets. The Parade officially starts on Livernois at West Breckenridge, and heads north. The parade will march east on Maplehurst, south on Woodward, west on 9 Mile, and south at Livernois, ending at the Memorial Mall in front of Ferndale Fire Station #1.
