Goldfish Swim School Swimming Lessons Review and Pics – Rochester, Michigan
Goldfish Swim School in Rochester, Michigan swimming lessons review.
Goldfish Swim School in Rochester is now open. My daughter is signed up for swimming classes and we attended our first class recently. Gold Fish Swim School specializes in swim lessons for infants, toddlers, and children ages 4+.
When you first walk into Goldfish Swim School the atmosphere is vibrant and fun, enough to calm anyone’s fears and to bring excitement and joy to learning how to swim. Music is playing. Everything is painted in bright yellows and oranges. The staff is great and very welcoming, and you’re surrounded by palm trees and bamboo tables with straw umbrellas.
Goldfish Swim School has all the amenities that make this experience easy and convenient. There are cabanas for dressing rooms, an in (dry) door and an out (wet) door to keep the “traffic” running smoothly, shower stalls to rinse after, swim suit wringing machines, and best of all, a completely heated pool area. The pool room is so warm there is no worry that your child will be distracted from their lesson because they’re too cold. The water temp also averages 90 degrees. This is a very nice change from previous swim lessons where my kids had blue lips!
I watched my daughter through the large glass wall from the parent’s sitting area. I could see how her comfort level with the whole experience was so high and she’s having fun and looking confident. This is a great relief coming from someone who feared that her daughter would have enormous trepidations and adversity to the idea of swim lessons. The teachers work so well with the kids and the student-teacher ratio is awesome. There is a four child limit for Goldfish Swim School classes with no parent/adult participation.
Kids definitely get enough swim time in at each Goldfish Swim School swim lesson. Swimming lessons run one half hour long and are for all ages and skill levels – adult/child, group, semi-private, and private. There are also one hour long recreational swim team classes. Classes are perpetual which means they continue indefinitely until you turn in a withdrawal form. It is recommended that children stay enrolled in the program until they have graduated from the Pro Level. Whether you want to get your child swimming early (infants or toddlers), or you have a child that hasn’t learned to swim yet, Goldfish Swim School is designed to get them swimming proficiently.
Everyone who registers for Goldfish Swim School lessons gets a t-shirt. The kids always love that. There is all a decent cancellation policy at Goldfish Swim School. They allow make-up sessions for an average of 6 cancellations over 6 months and they work with you to schedule your make-up.
In the first Goldfish Swim School lesson for beginners, they already had the kids with their faces in the water, diving for rings in shallow water. I was pretty excited to see this progress. My goal by the end of this is to have my “non-swimmer” become a little “fish.”
GOLDFISH SWIM SCHOOL SWIM LESSONS UPDATE 7/8/12:
After about 3 months of lessons, my daughter moved up a level and my son was on the brink of moving up (he started after my daughter).
The most important thing to mention here is that my daughter was incredibly hesitant about the water. Her water skills and confidence were limited to her dipping the front of her face in the water while plugging her nose, and calling it ‘going under water.’ With the help of Goldfish Swim School, she is now jumping into the water, going under fully, floating on her back, swimming with a decent stroke (that needs some work but none the less), and she has stopped plugging her nose when she goes under water. Overall, she has made incredible strides with her water skills, but even more importantly, there is an amazing amount of enthusiasm that has replaced her hesitancy. Now, she can’t get enough of the water, she puts forth great efforts since the fear has diminished, and she feels proud and looks forward to learning more and improving further. She enjoys it so much, and this alone is helping her get better.
My son’s situation is slightly different. He came into this knowing some very basic swim schools. Basically, he could swim, but with no “finesse.” With Goldfish Swim School, he has learned proper form, the back stroke, treading water, and much more. So, if you have a child that can already swim, Goldfish Swim School can help your little swimmer become a polished swimmer. And, who knows, your child may work his way up to the rec swim team and enjoy doing this for more than just some swimming splash fun.
GOLDFISH SWIM SCHOOL SWIM LESSONS UPDATE 10/8/12
After three more months of lessons, both of my kids are in the same level and have moved up two more times! I can’t believe the progress. And, we’ve missed many lessons with the start of school and our crazy schedule. So, the progress has been impressive. The next goal is for them to reach the Goldfish Swim rec team. They are two steps away! So, in a short six months, my daughter went from not swimming at all, to the Star level (just two steps below the rec team). Stay tuned for more updates!
GOLDFISH SWIM SCHOOL SWIM LESSONS UPDATE 1/8/13
About a month ago, both of my kids moved up to the next level. Now they are one step away from the swim team. They are working on some high level swim skills and doing very well with it! They’re working on mastering the breaststroke, dolphin kick, and the butterfly stroke!

Both of my kids have moved up again and are now at the final stage – the Rec-Swim Team! I will provide more details once they take a few classes since we don’t know what to expect other than they will now be swimming the long length of the pool vs the shorter length.
GOLDFISH SWIM SCHOOL SWIM LESSONS UPDATE 4/31/13
The kids are doing fantastic on the Goldfish Swim Team! We just had our first swim meet. My son was unable to participate, but my daughter had a truly wonderful experience. The swim meets are very comfortable, and not nerve-wrecking for the kids. There is very little focus on the competition end of it. Yes, they are timed. But, everyone receives a placement ribbon. My daughter is not the competitive type, so she just enjoyed finding out her times and holding onto to them to try and beat next time. She was also proud to bring home a first place ribbon and two second place ribbons. The event ended with a pizza party and plenty of smiles. A truly class act event! Thank you, Goldfish!
