Grand Azteca Mexican Restaurant – Troy, Michigan – Review and Pics

Posted by Lisa LaGrou July 21, 2012 Restaurants, Reviews

Grand Azteca Mexican Restaurant has locations in Madison Heights, Fraser, Warren, Troy, and Sterling Heights. I heard some good things about Grand Azteca so I thought I would take my two kids and their friend out for Mexican food. We went to the Troy location which is located on Long Lake Road west of Rochester Rd.

We went to Grand Azteca on a Thursday night, and it was not too crowded. The atmosphere was festive and comfortable. Grand Azteca is colorfully decorated with many Mexican styles and themes. Even the laquered tables are covered with Mexican style and art.

The staff is super nice and works hard to communicate effectively with the customers. Our server didn’t always seem to understand what we were saying, but he always got it right. Grand Azteca even includes a “Descriptions” section on the menu that explains each main entree, e.g. a chalupa, a taquito, etc., so you know what everything is made of.

When you first enter Grand Azteca, a server will bring out tortilla chips with salsa, as well as a side of Mexican Ranch dip. The kids and I all loved the salsa. The Mexican Ranch dip was a nice twist, but we much preferred the salsa. The salsa had a great consistency and perfect kick; hot, but not too hot.

The service was a tad slow. But, when our orders were finally placed, our food came out about five minutes later. Overall, the food at Grand Azteca is very flavorful. I’ve heard of many people complaining about bland Mexican restaurants. The food at Grand Azteca is far from bland. The kids loved the food and they all ate every bite.

Grand Azteca has reasonable, family-friendly prices. The kids menu has several selections for $4.99 each. My son got a burrito and a soft taco. It was a lot of food, which was a nice change from many of the other kids menus that leave my kids still hungry. If your kids aren’t fans of Mexican food, there are Americanized choices as well. A juice box was included with the kids meals, but we had to ask for it. For some reason they didn’t automatically bring it with the meal.

Other menu items at Grand Azteca Mexican restaurant were reasonably priced as well. I went with the ala carte options so I could try a burrito and a chimichanga. There are also many combination plates, several different burrito options, and a full selection of Mexican favorites. Burritos. Enchiladas. Taquitos. Chile rellenos. Tacos. Chalupas. And so much more. The menu is seven full pages and includes drinks available at the full bar – Mexican beers, margaritas, tequila, whiskey…

Grand Azteca Mexican Restaurant is very family friendly. The staff stopped by our table a few times to chat with the kids. And it was genuine kindness. The kids got a kick out of it. Let’s face it, we all know that food prices are going up and taking the family out to eat can be expensive. Grand Azteca is still one of the few places around that is truly affordable for the whole family. Check it out!
