Even before I had children of my own, I've always had a fascination with missing children cases. I love when an Amber Alert is just a false alarm and the child just forgot to tell their mom they were going on a sleepover at a friend's house. One of my favorite shows to watch when I was younger was "Unsolved Mysteries." I always rooted for an update where the child was safely reunited with his/her parents.  More often than not, there isn't a happy ending and parents live out their entire lives never knowing what happened to their child. I can't imagine a greater horror than having an eerie feeling of something going wrong and your child not returning home from a playdate or from the bus stop.

The following letter is from the superintendent of the Rochester Community School District regarding the H1N1 / Swine Flu concerns, but it is applicable to all with children in the school system.

Dear Parent /Guardian:

The start of a new year at Rochester Community Schools is always an exciting time, whether you have your first child going off to kindergarten or a senior attending their last year with us.

Parenting is FILLED with questions, but the answers are quite often lacking.

From the minute a child is born, we are faced with decisions. And, if you’re anything like me, you like things to be black and white with clear-cut answers.  Needless to say, this has been a huge adjustment for me.  There are so many moments where I find myself asking “What do we do?”
