Jersey Mike’s Rochester Hills Review

Jersey Mike’s Rochester Hills Review and menu info. Jersey Mike’s Subs just opened recently in the old Blockbuster location in Rochester Hills at Wabash and Rochester Rd.

I tried it out with my family, and was surprised to see that it began in 1956. It began in a time when subs were a relatively new item. This paired with an ideal location in New Jersey marked the beginning of Jersey Mike’s success.

Jersey Mike’s Rochester Hills is in direct competition with other Rochester area sub shops Jimmy Johns, Tubby’s Submarine and Subway. After trying it out, I’d say it fares well to the competition and has a few differences.

The main difference (an added bonus) is that Jersey Mike’s Subs slices the deli meats fresh with each order! The sandwich bread is also thicker and wider than Jimmy John’s, Subway and Tubby’s so a regular sub (7.5 inches) is substantial when you consider the weight of the sandwich compared to a Subway footlong. Yes, it made for a slightly longer wait in line, but the quality in the end result was worth it. This is their competitive edge in my opinion.

Like Subway, you’ll stand in the “assembly” line as they construct your sub, and you can choose from among the extras and how you want to customize your sub. Subway has many more toppings to choose from, but Jersey Mike’s Subs has some quality ones as well. I really liked the unique red relish. I’m not sure what it’s made from because when I asked, I could not hear the employee through the thick glass wall. There were many people there, and the tall glass wall and noise made it very diffcult to talk to the person behind the glass who was making my sandwich.  But I took my chances and had some of the red relish and it was good. I couldn’t find it as an option however on the online ordering, so you probably need to go in to order if you want to try it.

Jersey Mike’s Rochester Hills also has the following free optional toppings: Onions, Lettuce, Tomato, Red Wine Vinegar, Oil, Oregano, Salt, Pickles, Jalapeños, Banana Peppers, Mayo, and Mustard.

Because I’m not a huge fan of mayo, I loved getting my sub Mike’s Way. This means they top it with onions, lettuce, tomato, spices, and “The Juice” (red wine vinegar and olive oil blend). I highly recommend getting a sub Mike’s Way. The freshly sliced meats and all the crisp veggies are enhanced by the zesty flavor of “The Juice.”

Jersey Mike’s Subs has different sizes for their subs…

  • Regular Sub (7.5″)
  • Giant Sub (15″)
  • Mini Sub – (half of the regular sub)
  • Wrap
  • Sub in a Tub (same sub stuffings but made into a salad)

I ordered a regular sub at Jersey Mike’s Subs. 7.5 inches sounds like an average size, but the sub was very packed and more than filling. I could get the mini next time and be happy with that (so long as I had a bag of chips to go with it!).

Jersey Mike’s has online ordering for an added convenience. Something I will definitely try next time since it was somewhat difficult to communicate with the tall glass wall. (I’m 5’3″ and I was barely taller than the wall). When I went online to see their ordering options, I noticed that you can choose between white or wheat bread, and you can also add extra cheese, extra meat, or bacon for an additional cost.
