Fun Places to Go in Metro Detroit This Summer – Here’s what’s open in Governor Whitmer’s plan to re-open Michigan during covid. Updates on beaches, waterparks, splash pads, the DIA, the Detroit Zoo, Jimmy John’s Field, and local entertainment places and popular outdoor recreational facilities.

Here’s what’s open, what’s opening soon, and the restrictions and guidelines in place due to covid-19 at these parks, businesses, and establishments. Currently, parks, summer camps, and golf courses are open. The updates below includes links to reviews and photo galleries.

Splash Pad at Heritage Park

Heritage Park has a small splash pad at the north end of the park near the north shelter / picnic area and playground. Kids are free to run through splash pad when the weather is warm enough. Entry to Heritage Park is FREE and so is the Splash Pad! REVIEW / PICS / INFO
UPDATE 6/26/20 – Heritage Park Splash Pad is now open for the summer of 2020. The City is operating the Splash Pad at a limited capacity per the Governor’s Executive Order and visitors are reminded that social distancing is required for all those not from the same household. If the Splash Pad is at capacity, families are encouraged to bring a picnic to enjoy at Heritage Park or to visit the nearby Snack Shack.

Kensington Metropark Splash n Blast

The Kensington Metropark Splash n Blast waterpark has two main areas of attraction. First, there is a pair of 250-foot twisted waterslides for kids 42″ or taller. Second, there is a large open spray park that is decorated with palm trees, serpents and cannons that spray water. Kensington Metropark Splash n Blast is open Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend each year from 11a to 7p daily. REVIEW / PICS / INFO.

KLR SplashPad at Seymour Lake Park

Seymour Lake Park splashpad itself offers plenty of fountains, geysers, water guns, filling and dumping water buckets, spraying palm trees that kids can run through, play with and control. The area surrounding KLR Splashpad is filled with shaded benches and a fence so it’s very easy to keep your eyes on your kids. Lake St Clair Metropark Pool and Squirt Zone

The Squirt Zone Spray Ground at Lake St Clair Metropark is FREE for park visitors and open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Located between the 50-Meter outdoor pool and the beach on Lake St Clair, this splashpad is zero-entry safe for kids and extremely expansive. Spray n Play Splash Pad and Adventure Park at Indian Springs Metropark

Spray n Play is open daily Memorial Day through Labor Day weekends and is an extension of the large Adventure Playground. Featuring spray cannons, a hill slide, water buckets, and sprayers… Spray and Play is a fun way to cool off when enjoying the rest of Adventure playground. In addition to the splash pad & Spray n Play, kids will enjoy cargo nets, mazes, toddler lot, and climbing wall. Beaches open and available for visitors, as long as they are practicing social distancing. Metroparks are working with local health departments to perform water quality testing to ensure beaches are safe for swimming. Metroparks police officers will be out enforcing social distancing, and Metroparks ability to keep these areas open relies on people practicing social distancing. Please remember to give other visitors the recommended six feet of space so that we can keep these areas open to visitors. Beaches at the Metropark are considered “swim at your own risk”. “Beach capacity is limited to 100 people at a time and is strictly monitored. No sunbathing or groups on sand area. Detroit Zoo

The Detroit Zoo is open daily from 9a-5p to Detroit Zoo Zoological Members and to the public through purchasing tickets via advanced registration HERE. All guests and members visiting the Detroit Zoo, ages two and older, are required to have reservations. In an effort to maintain physical distancing among guests, the DZS will be limiting capacity within the Zoo over the 125 acres. Reservations can be made up to two weeks in advance. Reservations will be limited to 6 people per Governor Whitmer’s order.

The DIA will reopen to members and tri-county residents on July 10, and to all visitors on July 15. Tickets are temporarily free of charge for all visitors. Beginning in August, general admission fees will be reinstated for visitors who reside outside of Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties. With the galleries of the DIA scheduled to open again, each of us plays a role in a safe reopening, with social distancing, face masks, and additional health and safety precautions in place.
