La Marsa Serves Up Fresh and Flavorful Tastes of the Mediterranean

La Marsa restaurants serve traditional Mediterranean cuisine such as Schwarma, Hommous, Shish Kabob, Tawook, Tabbouli and more.

I finally made my first trip to La Marsa, and it was worth the wait. My friend and I went to the newest La Marsa located in Farmington Hills. It’s been open for a short while and is the smallest of the Metro Detroit locations. With only about seven tables along with some outdoor seating, it’s a cozy dining destination.

As soon my friend and I were seated, the friendly La Marsa staff brought out their infamous white fluffy garlic spread and freshly baked warm pitas that put all other pita breads to shame. And the garlic spread is so good, I found myself at lengthy discussions with the staff and a notepad taking down the secret recipe. Be prepared for some solitary confinement or cracking the windows open if you down a lot of the stuff. It’s a powerful blend of raw garlic, salt, lemon juice, olive oil and a touch of jalapeno.

We started our meal at La Marsa with a dinner salad that was fresh and filled with the unique, yet distinctive Mediterranean seasonings. The portion size was also generous and larger than most dinner salads.

Because I love the garlic spread, I opted for the shish tawook sandwich which is char-broiled chicken breast kabob with garlic sauce and pickles wrapped in a pita. It is reasonably priced at $4.49, and you get more than your money’s worth with the quality, taste, and freshness. My friend ordered the Salmon Ghallaba – fresh salmon stir fried with vegetables and natural herbs and spices. I sneaked a taste and it was really good. The pricing for the entrees is higher and you’ll find dishes averaging $15-$20/plate.

La Marsa does Mediterranean food right. La Marsa gives you the chance to eat healthy food that is full of flavor. Some of the dishes include schwarma, lamb, hummous, kabob, tabbouli, falafel, kibbee, seafood, and any other Mediterranean classic I’ve missed.

Combo and party trays are also available for large groups. And, if you have a picky eater who’s not willing to try hommous, tabbouli and falafel, you can pick between chicken tenders or chicken nuggets, each priced at $4.99. You will also find traditional dessert options such as baklava and rice pudding.
