Make Your Own Slip and Slide Instructions

Wet and Wild slideAll you need is a durable plastic painter’s tarp (smooth, not textured), plastic tent stakes, and a nearby hose. We purchased a tarp that was about 13 feet wide and 25 feet long at Home Depot. We used six tent stakes (get the dull plastic ones) – three on each side, to keep the wind from flipping it over. Wet the slip & slide tarp down thoroughly with a hose, and then keep the hose running as the kids slide. If you turn off the hose for more than a couple of minutes, the grass may start to burn. Be sure to fold up it up as soon as the kids are done playing or your lawn could pay the price.

Pro Tip

  • Angela, one of our facebook friends, offers the following – “add a small squirt of dish soap on the tarp it’ll make it easier to slide”

FREE SUMMER FUN FOR KIDS

We have the perfect hill in our yard, but if you have anything even close to a slope, the DIY slip and slide is fantastic! The kids, as well as anyone that comes over to try it out, absolutely LOVE it. Our DIY version is faster than our store bought junker from Target, Meijer, or Wal-Mart. The painter’s tarp holds up really well and the quality is better than the cheap ones you see at toy stores.

We’ve used our tarp year after year. It’s easy to fold up for storage and makes a nice cover for our air conditioner during the winter months. The best aspect is that you can you can make your own as long (or short) as your yard will allow and not be limited by the tiny ones that are available at Target, Meijer, or Wal-Mart. I thought 13 feet would be too much but we could have gone much longer.
