Matthew Stafford Interview

Matthew Stafford Interview – Oakland County Moms interview with Detroit Lions Quarterback Matthew Stafford about healthy eating and exercise.

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford visited Boulan Park Middle School in Troy for a special school assembly focused on healthy eating and exercise.

Seventh grader Marissa Orzame was the winner of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan’s second-annual “Make the Play for Healthy Habits” video contest and won the assembly for her school.

I was invited to stop by Boulan Park Middle School to interview Matthew Stafford. I enjoyed asking Stafford about promoting health and fitness among children and what he did as a child to keep fit. Here’s the interview below.

Matthew Stafford Interview

Lisa LaGrou of OaklandCountyMoms.com – How did you not fall victim to all the video games and kids TV shows when you were younger?

Detroit Lions Quarterback Matthew Stafford – The biggest thing for me is I loved sports, I loved competition… so I was in sports year round. I wasn’t just a football player. I played football, baseball, basketball, soccer, track…I did everything. I give a lot of credit to my parents for busing me around and shooting me around to all the practices, and for feeding me all the right things. The biggest thing for me was being out and making sure I had sports to go play. It wasn’t just about getting up and going running on a treadmill. I was going to play soccer, and going to play football and all that kind of stuff. It made it easy to be active.

Lisa LaGrou of OaklandCountyMoms.com – What advice would you give to the kids of today to be motivated to get out and be active?

Detroit Lions Quarterback Matthew Stafford – Do video games in moderation. I didn’t play a ton of video games and I don’t know if it has anything to do with me getting where I am today….

Lisa LaGrou of OaklandCountyMoms.com – I’m sure it did!

Detroit Lions Quarterback Matthew Stafford – The biggest thing is that being fit doesn’t have to be about lifting weights or running on a treadmill. It can be anything… just to get yourself active. There are things you can do that are fun. Fun ways to be active and make sure you’re staying healthy.

Lisa LaGrou of OaklandCountyMoms.com – If you were to get married and have kids of your own, what sports would you get them involved in to keep them active and promote health and fitness?

Detroit Lions Quarterback Matthew Stafford – Obviously I want them to do what they love to do, but at the same time, I want them to be involved in as many as they can. My parents were great and kind of opened a bunch of doors for me, and let me choose which one was my favorite, the one I was good at, or whatever it was. But, at the same time, no door was closed. I think they would have supported me if I had done anything. That was kind of a blessing for me.
