There are plenty of fun things to do in and around Metro Detroit this weekend. This list will try to highlight some of the Metro Detroit weekend events – big and small – for kids and families. I’m going to be using this article to post events and activities that are either free, or at least family affordable.

Birmingham MI Weekend Event – Birmingham Restaurant Week 2015
Participating Birmingham Restaurants
Pricing for Birmingham Restaurant Week remains consistent with previous years; three-course lunches for $15 and three-course dinners for $30 (excludes beverages, tax, and gratuity). The culinary extravaganza offers restaurant-goers delicacies from the area’s top chefs, who create special and unique menu items specifically for the event. Brand new this year, a ‘Frequent Diner’ incentive offers patrons an opportunity to enter a raffle every time they dine. See participating restaurants.

Actually play the classic video games you know and love, just like in an arcade at this awesome museum exhibit! Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, and Q*Bert are just few of the names of the more than 70 games at the Sloan Museum. Hours: Friday 10a-5p, Sat and Sun noon-5p. Admission: $9 adults, $8 Seniors (60+), $6 Youth age 2-11, Children 1 and under are FREE. Review and pics!

Rochester Hills MI Weekend Event – Open Gym / Drop-In Gymnastics
GTC Gymnastics Training Center (1813 Northfield Dr, Rochester Hills, MI 48309)
Ages & up. This is a great opportunity to practice the skills learned in gymnastics or just have fun! Jump on the trampoline or flip around in foam pits. You do not have to be in a GTC class to participate, so invite your friends and neighbors to come along. ( A waiver form must be filled out by a parent/guardian before anyone may attend.) Detroit MI Weekend Event - Friday Night Live at the DIA
Music: The Spencer Barfield Quartete: 7 & 8:30 p.m.
Detroit Film Theatre: 2015 Academy Award® Nominated Short Films: 7 p.m.
Before the Oscars are handed out on Feb. 22, see this year’s nominated shorts in the animated and live-action categories. The program is recommended for ages 17 and up. Since this is the most popular annual DFT program, advance tickets are highly recommended. Tickets are $8.50 and $6.50 for DIA members, seniors and students.
