There are plenty of fun things to do in and around Metro Detroit this weekend. This list will try to highlight some of the Metro Detroit weekend events – big and small – for kids and families. I’m going to be using this article to post events and activities that are either free, or at least family affordable.

Beverly Hills MI Weekend Event – Village-Wide Garage Sale
Throughout Beverly Hills Michigan Residents are required to register their address with the Village Office and purchase garage sale signs from the Village at a cost of $3 for two signs. Homemade signs are not allowed. The Village will advertise the community-wide event and also make a list of participants available at the Village Office, on the village website, and on Cable Channels 10 and 15. Detroit MI Weekend Event – Friday Night Live at the DIA
Friday Night Live: Naomi Yamaguchi: 7 & 8:30 p.m.
Naomi Yamaguchi made her debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City at age seven. Naomi will perform her own composition, along with music by Frederic Chopin, Claude Debussy and Peter Tchaikovsky.

Auburn Hills MI Weekend Event – Paddlepalooza 2015
Riverside Park (corner of Auburn and Squirrel Roads)
Paddlepalooza 2015, a canoe/kayak race and adventure river paddle on the Clinton River. Because the river can be considered a difficult Class III rating at certain times of the year, Paddlepalooza 2015 is not recommended for the beginner paddler. Participants must be at least 12 years of age, and paddlers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Personal flotation devices are required. To register.

Troy MI Weekend Event – Annual Music Marathon
Troy High School Auditorium (4777 Northfield Pkwy, Troy, MI)
Stop in anytime during that 12 hour period to catch some of Troy’s most talented musicians as they share their love of music and raise money and awareness for their band program. And while the music is FREE, there are opportunities to support the bands with your generous donations as well, with cash or checks payable to Troy High Band Boosters. You can also bring and donate your recyclable cans from 8 am to 2 pm, or grab a bite to eat at the concession stand from 10a-8p. For more information, call 248.823.2794.

Novi MI Weekend Event – River Day
Rotary Park (22220 Roethel Drive, Novi, Michigan)
Volunteers will gather for a “spring cleaning” of the park, which is part of the Rouge River Watershed. Activities include planting, weeding, and clearing of the walking trails. All volunteers will receive a picnic lunch at noon provided by the Novi Rotary Club.

Saturday open gym session at fLipSpot is for all ages. The cost is $12 a person or $25 for a family. Kids under 5 have to have a parent in the gym. All participants must have a signed waiver on file. A waiver can be filled out electronically at flipspotgym.com.

Light up the Night will kick off with the Guy Louis Family Concert from 7-9 p.m. Following the live music, there will be glow games and activities, glow putt putt, crafts for kids, night insect program and T-shirt printing (bring a plain, dark-colored T-shirt). Astronomers will be on site with telescopes if weather permits.
