There are plenty of fun things to do in and around Metro Detroit this weekend. This list will try to highlight some of the Metro Detroit weekend events – big and small – for kids and families. I’m going to be using this article to post events and activities that are either free, or at least family affordable.

Waterford MI Weekend Event – Century Bowl Spring Carnival

Actually play the classic video games you know and love, just like in an arcade at this awesome museum exhibit! Detroit MI Weekend Event - Friday Night Live at the DIA
Detroit Film Theatre: The Yellow Ticket: 7 p.m.
This pivotal German/Polish silent film tells the story of a young woman forced to hide her Jewish identity in order to attend medical school in St. Petersburg. Presented with live music written and performed by violinist Alicia Svegals of the Klezmatics and pianist Marilyn Lerner. Admission is free.

Orion Township MI Weekend Event – Free Wood Chips Days
Orion Oaks County Park (2301 Clarkston Road, Orion Twp, MI)
Grab your shovels, wheelbarrows and buckets! Oakland County Parks is giving away free wood chips at Orion Oaks County Park on various Saturdays in 2015. Patrons can enter at the Clarkston Road gate to load free wood chips and compost for backyard projects. Bring tools; shovels, wheelbarrows, etc. All wood chips and compost must be self-loaded manually into pick-up trucks and small trailers. No commercial haulers.

Springfield Oaks County Park (12451 Andersonville Road, Davisburg, Michigan)
Through educational, hands-on, family-friendly experiences, this special event will highlight the opportunities available to youth in 4-H and at the Oakland County Fair. Designed for families with children ages 5-19, Destination 4-H Discovery Day is a collaborative effort between Oakland County 4-H and the Oakland County Fair. Among the activities to be included are demonstrations, hands-on activities and crafts. Door prizes will be awarded and breakfast and lunch may be purchased at the Fairboard Café. Some events require a fee but most are free. A complete schedule of activities is available at OakFair.org.
