There are plenty of fun things to do in and around Metro Detroit this weekend. This list will try to highlight some of the Metro Detroit weekend events - big and small - for kids and families. I’m going to be using this article to post events and activities that are either free or at least family affordable.

Farmington MI Weekend Event – Harvest Moon Celebration
Sundquist Pavilion in Riley Park (Grand River Avenue at Grove Street Farmington, Michigan)
Sample harvest food pairings, sip crafted cider or artisan ales, explore fine wines and meads, relax by the fire, or just enjoy the music. Enjoy life in a small town on a Michigan fall day. Hours are 6p-11p on Thursday, 6p-11:30p on Friday, and 9a-3p on Sunday.

Sandusky Ohio Weekend Event - HalloWeekends 2014 at Cedar Point
Cedar Point
HalloWeekend hours are Fridays 6pm-12midnight, Saturdays 11am-12midnight, and Sundays 12noon-8pm. HalloWeekends is filled with Spooktacular attractions. There are two degrees of ‘scary’ – Family Friendly, and Frightfully Scary (which is not recommended for young children). In total, you’ll find 23 spooktacular attractions at Cedar Point’s HalloWeekends. Review and pics of Halloweekends. Holly MI Weekend Event – Haunted Hallows II
Groveland Oaks County Park (14555 Dixie Highway, Holly, Michigan)
Frightful Fall fun featuring inflatable bouncers, campground trick or treating, campsite decorating contest, pumpkin crafts, Halloween contests, face painting, haunted Island, team games, hayrides and a costumed DJ dance. Please note that most activities take place on Saturday; specific schedules are posted at the campground, or call the park directly for details.

Farmington Hills MI Weekend Event: Hayride Central
Heritage Park (24725 Farmington Road, Farmington Hills, MI)
Hayrides are scheduled at Heritage Park every half-hour on Friday evenings in the Fall through October 24 (and one on Saturday, November 1). Roast Marshmallows over a campfire and enjoy a cup of cider as part of the Fall Hayrides package.

Detroit Michigan Weekend Event - Friday Night Live at the DIA
Detroit Institute of Arts (5200 Woodward Ave, Detroit, Michigan 48202)
Music: Grace Kelly: 7 & 8:30 p.m.
Jazz saxophonist and vocalist Grace Kelly has already collaborated with a who’s who in jazz, including Dave Brubeck, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Connick, Jr. For this performance, she is joined by Tad Weed, piano; Marion Hayden, bass; and Sean Dobbins, drums.

Rochester Hills MI Weekend Event – Open Gym / Drop-In Gymnastics
GTC Gymnastics Training Center (1813 Northfield Dr, Rochester Hills, MI 48309)
Ages 5 & up. This is a great opportunity to practice the skills learned in gymnastics or just have fun! Jump on the trampoline or flip around in foam pits. You do not have to be in a GTC class to participate, so invite your friends and neighbors to come along. ( A waiver form must be filled out by a parent/guardian before anyone may attend.) Davisburg MI Weekend Event – Davisburg Heritage Festival 2014
Downtown Davisburg
The day will be filled with a pancake breakfast, antique tractor and fire-truck display, cemetery tours, wagon ride park tours, historical demonstrations, a parade through downtown, family fun games, cow pie bingo, beer tent, farmers’ market, concert and live bands, hay maze and much, much more. Most activities are FREE.

Independence Oaks County Park (9501 Sashabaw Road, Clarkston, MI)
Oakland County Parks Pet Vaccinations clinics for dogs and cats are low-cost and presented by All About Animals. Rabies, canine distemper, bordetella, feline distemper and feline leukemia vaccines available for $10 for each vaccine. Heartworm test and microchips are $20 each. Flea prevention, heartworm prevention and dewormer will also be available. Everyone is welcome, no Oakland County residency requirements. Rain or shine. This exceptional art fair will host more than 160 artists from across the country presenting their handmade artwork in ceramics, painting, photography, glass, jewelry, sculpture, wood and more. The Common Ground Art Fair Birmingham 2014 artist booths will be on Old Woodward south of Maple Road, part of the vibrant street scene in beautiful downtown Birmingham. This exceptional art fair serves as a major fundraiser for the outstanding work of Common Ground, Oakland County’s nonprofit agency providing emergency help for families in crisis.

Northville MI Weekend Event – Maybury Farm Corn Maze
Maybury Farm (50165 Eight Mile, Northville Township, MI 48167)
Corn maze tickets include a visit to the farm, playground, a hayride to the cornmaze, fun in the 12 acre corn maze. Hours are Fridays from 6p-10p, Saturdays from noon-10p, and Sundays from noon-7p. Hayrides run every 20 minutes and kids can wait for the hayride at the nearby playground. Flashlights and glo necklaces are available for night time corn maze fun!
