There are plenty of fun things to do in and around Metro Detroit this weekend. This list will try to highlight some of the Metro Detroit weekend events - big and small - for kids and families. I’m going to be using this article to post events and activities that are either free, or at least family affordable.

Sandusky Ohio Weekend Event - HalloWeekends 2014 at Cedar Point

HalloWeekend hours are Fridays 6pm-12midnight, Saturdays 11am-12midnight, and Sundays 12noon-8pm. HalloWeekends is filled with Spooktacular attractions. There are two degrees of ‘scary’ – Family Friendly, and Frightfully Scary (which is not recommended for young children). In total, you’ll find 23 spooktacular attractions at Cedar Point’s HalloWeekends. Review and pics of Halloweekends. Royal Oak MI Weekend Event – ZOO BOO
The Detroit Zoo (8450 W. 10 Mile Rd, Royal Oak, MI 48067)
The Detroit Zoo’s annual “merry-not-scary” Zoo Boo celebration, presented by the Michigan Education Savings Program, features a festively decorated half-mile trick-or-treat trail through the front of the park. Live, friendly entertainment awaits your costume-clad little ones in the Zoo Boo Revue tent, and they will be delighted to try their luck at the Ghouly Games Tent. Other features include Haunted Reptile House and Zombie Zone. Zoo Boo is held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Fridays and 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Advance tickets for Zoo Boo can be purchased in advance at Window One at the front of the Zoo or online. Tickets may sell out, so advance ticket purchase is encouraged! Advance tickets are $8 per person, ages 2 and up. Children under 2 are free. Tickets can be purchased at Window One at the front of the Zoo or online. Northville MI Weekend Event - Maybury Farm Corn Maze
Maybury Farm (50165 Eight Mile, Northville Township, MI 48167)
Corn maze tickets include a visit to the farm, playground, a hayride to the corn maze, fun in the 12 acre corn maze. Hours are Fridays from 6p-10p, Saturdays from noon-10p, and Sundays from noon-7p. Hayrides run every 20 minutes and kids can wait for the hayride at the nearby playground. Flashlights and glo necklaces are available for night-time corn maze fun! Rochester Michigan Weekend Event – Halloween Hoot
Dinosaur Nature Preserve (333 North Hill Circle, Rochester, Michigan 48307)
The woods of Dinosaur Hill are filled with family-friendly storytellers, actors and even a few puppets. Includes a campfire with entertainment, easy walk through the woods to view skits along candle lit trail with cider and a doughnut to complete the evening. Program lasts approximately one hour. Times will sell out so please contact early to purchase your ticket. Tickets sell for a specific time with groups leaving every ten minutes. Tickets are $7 per person. Tickets must be purchased in person, or by mail for various time slots during the event. Call 248-656-0999 for time slot availability.

Bring a flashlight and a bag for all the candy you’ll collect from local businesses and organizations along the trail. Don’t forget to drop your pumpkin off for the carving contest between 5 and 5:30pm. They’ll light the trail and can be taken home after! Stay and enjoy cider and donuts after the festivities.
