There are plenty of fun things to do in and around Metro Detroit this weekend. This list will try to highlight some of the Metro Detroit weekend events - big and small - for kids and families. I’m going to be using this article to post events and activities that are either free, or at least family affordable.

Sandusky Ohio Weekend Event - HalloWeekends 2014 at Cedar Point
HalloWeekend hours are Fridays 6pm-12midnight, Saturdays 11am-12midnight, and Sundays 12noon-8pm. HalloWeekends is filled with Spooktacular attractions. There are two degrees of ‘scary’ – Family Friendly, and Frightfully Scary (which is not recommended for young children). Farmington Hills MI Weekend Event: Hayride Central
Heritage Park (24725 Farmington Road, Farmington Hills, MI)
Hayrides are scheduled at Heritage Park every half-hour on Friday evenings in the Fall through October 24 (and one on Saturday, November 1). Roast Marshmallows over a campfire and enjoy a cup of cider as part of the Fall Hayrides package.

Northville MI Weekend Event - Maybury Farm Corn Maze
Maybury Farm (50165 Eight Mile, Northville Township, MI 48167)
Corn maze tickets include a visit to the farm, playground, a hayride to the corn maze, fun in the 12 acre corn maze. Hours are Fridays from 6p-10p, Saturdays from noon-10p, and Sundays from noon-7p. Hayrides run every 20 minutes and kids can wait for the hayride at the nearby playground. Flashlights and glo necklaces are available for night-time corn maze fun! Detroit Michigan Weekend Event - Friday Night Live at the DIA
Music: Slow/Fast, 7 & 8:30 p.m.
Slow/Fast explores the musical worlds of Ken Thomson (saxophone), merging his interest in structured compositions for chamber ensemble with jazz improvisations. Others in the group are Russ Johnson (trumpet), Nir Felder (guitar), Adam Armstrong (bass) and Fred Kennedy (drums). Rochester Hills MI Weekend Event – Open Gym / Drop-In Gymnastics
GTC Gymnastics Training Center (1813 Northfield Dr, Rochester Hills, MI 48309)
Ages 5 & up. This is a great opportunity to practice the skills learned in gymnastics or just have fun! Jump on the trampoline or flip around in foam pits. You do not have to be in a GTC class to participate, so invite your friends and neighbors to come along. ( A waiver form must be filled out by a parent/guardian before anyone may attend.) Michigan Antique Festival has been held for over 45 years and is Michigan’s largest antique and collectible festival. Browse over 80 acres of antiques and collectables from over 1000 dealers, enjoy a classic car show, food, live entertainment, and more! Admission to Michigan Antiques Festival is $6 per person. Kids under 11 years old are free. Parking is free. Hours are from 8a-6p on Saturday and 9a-4p on Sunday.

Sunday Music Bar: Pianist Stefan Kukurugya, 1–4 p.m.
The Artist’s Garden: American Impressionism and the Garden Movement, 1887–1920, 2 p.m.
Many important American Impressionists both created gardens and painted them. Anna O. Marley, curator of historical American art, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, will talk about painters at work in different gardens, with particular attention to Maria Oakey and her husband, Thomas Wilmer Dewing. The Dewings helped decorate the home of collector Charles Lang Freer in Detroit and contributed to the design of his gardens.
