There are plenty of fun things to do in and around Metro Detroit this weekend. This list will try to highlight some of the Metro Detroit weekend events – big and small – for kids and families. I’m going to be using this article to post events and activities that are either free, or at least family affordable.

Rochester Hills MI Weekend Event – Village of Rochester Hills Tree-Lighting Ceremony
Village of Rochester Hills (NE corner of Adams Rd and University, Rochester Hills, MI)
Once again the Village will come to life with over 850,000 lights that will illuminate all at once! In addition to lighting our 25 foot tree, we will welcome Santa to the Village for another year of free visits. The fun starts at 6p, the tree-lighting takes place at 7p.

Detroit Michigan Weekend Event - Friday Night Live at the DIA
Music and DFT: The Lodger with Music by Little Bang Theory: 7 & 8:30 p.m.
Frank Pahl and Little Bang Theory accompany the showing of a newly restored version of Alfred Hirchcock’s 1920 silent thriller The Lodger, based on the crimes of London’s Jack the Ripper. Michigan musician/composer Pahl has worked in several styles including “toy pop,” music made with toy instruments.

Parents, educators, teachers, administrators and childcare workers are invited to the Western Oakland County Parenting Education Fair. The newly formed partnership with the PTAs and staff from Farmington Schools, Huron Valley Schools, the Oakland County Youth Assistance, Oakland Schools, Walled Lake Schools and West Bloomfield Schools is planning an expanded parenting education experience.

The event will feature self-guided scavenger hunts through the trails of Heritage Park. Participants will receive a list of clues and directions that will help them on their quest to find reasons to be thankful for all of nature’s gifts. The Detroit Zoo will light up the night this holiday season with Wild Lights, a spectacular holiday light display. For 24 nights, more than five million LED lights will illuminate trees, buildings and animal sculptures on a half-mile trail through the front of the Zoo. (282930)
