Weekend events and fun things to do for families in Oakland County, Metro Detroit and SE Michigan.

There are plenty of fun things to do in and around Metro Detroit this weekend. This list will try to highlight some of the Metro Detroit weekend events - big and small - for kids and families. I’m going to be using this article to post events and activities that are either free or at least family affordable.

Northville Michigan Weekend Event: Buy Michigan Now Festival 2014
Downtown Northville
Buy Michigan Now Festival includes sidewalk sales, live music, and fun for kids. All events highlight Michigan-based businesses and Michigan-made products. The Buy Michigan Now Festival is a funfest with a cause. This year’s Buy Michigan Now Festival in Northville will have a Michigan Wine and Beer Garden. hours are noon-9p on Friday, 10a-8p on Saturday, and 10a-5p on Sunday.

Holly, Michigan Weekend Event: Oakland County Parks Camping Weekend
Groveland Oaks County Park (14555 Dixie Highway, Holly, Michigan)
Friendly camper competition with remote controlled car/truck races, obstacle relay races, minnow races, bicycle races, team games, DJ dance, hayrides and a band. South Lyon Michigan Weekend Event: Free Summer Concert
McHattie Park (400 Dorothy Street, South Lyon, MI)
The free events will take place at the gazebo near the Witch’s Hat Depot in McHattie Park. Overflow parking is available at the South Lyon First Methodist Church. The shows begin at 7p and run until 8:30p. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy! This Friday’s concert: Bill Bynum & Co (Covers and Classics).

Detroit Michigan Weekend Event: Friday Night Live at the DIA
Detroit Institute of Arts (5200 Woodward Ave, Detroit, Michigan 48202)
Music: Trio Nova Mundi: 7 & 8:30 p.m.
Trio Nova Mundi performs music by New World composers and lesser-known classics from the piano trio literature. The trio will perform music by Amy Beach, JacobTV, Manuel Ponce and Paul Schoenfield. Trio Nova Mundi performers are Maureen Conlon Gutierrez (violin), Elissa Kohanksi (cello) and Becky Billock (piano).

Detroit Michigan Weekend Event: Rockin’ on the Riverfront Free Summer Concerts
GM Renaissance Center River Walk
Admission to the concerts is always free and no tickets are necessary. Viewing space is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets, but outside food, beverages and coolers are not permitted. This Friday’s Concert is – April Wine – The Rockets.

For just $10 teens can enjoy live local music, door prizes, 3 hours of unlimited glow bowling, contests, and food specials at Rock n Bowl at Classic Lanes. The live music and unlimited bowling starts at 8p and runs until 11p. Classic lanes have booked local music acts to play the teen through college favorites.
