Morton’s Steakhouse Troy

Morton’s Steakhouse Troy MI Review, hours, and menu info for Morton’s Steakhouse located on Big Beaver Rd just east of Crooks in Troy MI near Somerset Mall. My husband and I decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary at Morton’s Steakhouse. Last year, we hit Ruth’s Chris, and before that our go-to has been the Rochester Chop House. We also wanted to review Morton’s for Troy Restaurant Week.

Morton’s Steakhouse Troy seems smaller inside than Ruth’s Chris. It’s quaint and dimly lit inside. It’s not as stodgy or formal as Ruth’s Chris, and we sometimes find that the wait staff at Rochester Chop House is a bit more relaxed. But overall, all three steakhouses are going to give you an elegant night out.

When I made our reservations at Morton’s Steakhouse, I was able to do so online. It asked if this was for a special occasion so I mentioned the anniversary celebration. When we arrived at the restaurant and were seated, they handed us menus that were “customized” for us… a Happy Anniversary message was printed at the top with our names. A nice little keepsake.

We were greeted by our server who asked if it was our first visit. It was, so he gave us a 5-minute rundown of the Morton’s Steakhouse Troy menu to let us know what some of the specials were, how things were prepared, what his favorites were, and that we needed to be aware that certain desserts take 30-40 minutes to prepare so we should place our orders in time for when we would finish our meal. I found the speech to be helpful, but still felt a bit sorry for the guy.

Our dinner started with a giant onion bread loaf with whipped butter, the best Arnold Palmer I’ve had, and also the best house Merlot I’ve ever had. The meal did not take as long as I’d expect for a fine dining restaurant. With plenty of steak and seafood options on the menu, my husband ordered the NY strip steak with a cognac butter sauce, and I ordered the honey-chili glazed salmon. Meals are a la carte and you can order “sides to share.” We complimented our meal with sauteed asparagus – huge stalks cooked in olive oil and garlic and drizzled with balsamic, and the best french fries – shoestring fries tossed in white truffle oil and parmesan.

The food truly was some of the best we’ve had, but I still find that there’s a point where you wonder if it’s worth the price… yes, my salmon was really good, but at $35, I’ve had salmon just as good, in larger portions, for half the price. My husband said his steak was excellent, but the sauce was not what he hoped it would be. So, again, $64 for a steak? Probably not worth it, but you’re paying for the entire experience as a whole, so you decide. Morton’s does offer periodic menu specials and they seemingly always participate in Troy Restaurant Week.

Morton’s Steakhouse Troy so kindly gave us a complimentary dessert for our special occasion. We opted for the key lime pie which was great. They also finished our evening by taking our picture and leaving us with a nice photo framed and signed with a congratulatory message.

Morton’s Steakhouse has complimentary valet service, but parking is convenient as well.
