Motown Meridian Winter Blast 2014 Preview – Detroit Winter Festival

Posted by Glen LaGrou February 3, 2014 Events, Local Activities

The Motown Winter Blast returns to Campus Martius Park in Downtown Detroit for 2014 from Friday February 7 through Sunday, February 9 with a new name.

Motown Winter Blast will be know as Meridian Winter Blast presented by Quicken Loans thanks to new title sponsor – Meridian Health Plan.

Winter Blast’s coveted giant snow slide is also returning for 2014 and will be as exciting as ever, thanks to contributions by Buick. The Buick Snow Slide will tower 30 ft. in the air and feature three lanes traveling 200 ft. in seven seconds, offering a thrill for all ages. Buick regularly makes a difference in our community.

The 2014 Motown Winter Blast is to once again be the only weekend to have free skating at Campus Martius, plus three heated tents – two of them with stages and three stages all-together, more than 50 entertainment acts of top local talent, preofessional and amateur skating exhibitions, marshmallow roasting, an outdoor winter carnival, a family stage with special readings and a great lineup of talent to be announced in January, Taste of Detroit, “Comfort Zones” where you can find heat every 150 feet to warm up, ice sculptures, and more.

Returning is the Winter Blast Off, presented by the GM Foundation. The science-themed program has expanded and will be located in the Cadillac Square Tent in Campus Martius Park. Organized by Meridian Winter Blast and Michigan Vendor Mad Science, activities that will be offered to festival-goers include a Fire & Ice Show and hands-on science fun stations with slime, a color changing lab, bubbling potions and science trivia.

As in previous years, Meridian Winter Blast is the only weekend during which ice skating at Campus Martius is free. Other festival activities will include The Flagstar Bank Ice Garden, marshmallow roasting, delicious hot chocolate, live musical entertainment, heated tents and dog sledding.

Admission to the 2014 Meridian Winter Blast presented by Quicken Loans is $2 to support Matrix Human Services, or a donation of three canned goods/non-perishable items or a children’s book to support those in need in metro Detroit.
