Milford Public Library Kids Events for April/May 2012
Bookmark Design Contest
April 9th-May 5th
Kids in Kindergarten through 8^thgrade are invited to show off their artwork in the Milford PL Bookmark Design Contest. The theme of the contest is “Dream Big …Read!” Pick up an entry form at the Youth Reference Desk starting April 9. Winning entries will be picked from four groups based on age, and will be printed up on colorful card stock for distribution. winners will also receive $10.00 in Huron Valley Chamberbucks. Deadline for entries is May 5.
Free Comic Book Day
Saturday May 5
To celebrate Free Comic Book Day, we are joining other libraries and bookstores across North America in giving away free comic books. Kids in Kindergarten through 8th grade are invited to drop by the library between 9:30 and 5:00 to pick out a free comic book (while supplies last).
Happy Feet Dance Party
Thursday May 10 10:00-10:45 a.m.
For 2-5 year-olds with an adult. Put on your dancing shoes and join us as we dance the morning away. We’ll be hopping & bopping and swirling & twirling as we lead 2-5 year-olds in a variety of dances. A light snack will be served after the dancing. Registration begins April 26.
Math 101 for Preschoolers
Wednesday May 16 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Introduce your child to simple math concepts. Julie Ogg, Parent Educator at Great Parents/Great Start Oakland, presents this program for 3-5 year-olds and parents. In order to get the most out of this program, we ask that you make babysitting arrangements for younger siblings. Registration begins May 2.
Evening Storytime – Hop, Hop Hurray
Thursday May 24 from 7p-7:45p
Enjoy stories and activities about frogs and rabbits. Wear your pajamas and enjoy a snack after the program.
Milford Public Library Teen Events for April/May
Park and Read Program
Returning for a fourth summer is the Michigan Park and Read program. This program is a collaboration between the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Library of Michigan. Park and Read allows library cardholders to "check out" a one-day pass that waives the Recreation Passport entry fee for any Michigan state park or recreation area. Passes are valid for seven days from checkout and are for day use only. The program runs through October 1.
Poetry Arts Night
Saturday April 21 through Saturday May 5
The Village Fine Arts Association in collaboration with the Milford Public Library presents the 20^thannual Poetry Arts Night (PAN) competition and exhibit. Come and see some wonderful artwork produced by local artists along with an original poem about each work. The PAN Coffee House Celebration and awards presentation will take place at the Milford Public Library on Saturday April 28 at 6:30 p.m. Enjoy refreshments and live entertainment throughout the evening. Tickets at the door $10 for adults, $5 for children under 17.
Teen Movie Day
Thursday May 24 from 3:30p-5p
Spend the afternoon enjoying the antics of a classic high school student as he takes a day off from school. Soda and snacks will be provided. Bring something comfortable to sit on. Please note, our contract with our movie licensing
vendor does not allow us to post movie titles. Please call the Milford Public Library for more details about the movie.
