Basie and Paisley - James Robert Miller

July 31, 2010

altLocal Michigan author James Robert Miller sent me two of his books for review, A Spider Lives in My Belly Button and A Monstrous Smile. Sally Lumpkin's Party - Julianna Blankenship

May 31, 2010

altSally Lumpkin's Party is written by a local Michigan author, Julianna Blankenship. It's a story about a group of girlfriends that is relateable and gets you thinking about your own group of close friends and how much you cherish those relationships. Julianna Blankenship took her close friendships she developed in college and wrote a story about how things might have been if they all grew up together in the same neighborhood.

altA recent hot topic lately has been all the cuts being made among the schools due to budget constraints. As parents, we are concerned about whether or not our children will be given the greatest learning potential amidst these cutbacks.

I'm thankful for programs like Great Start Collaborative-Oakland County and their mission to build a comprehensive early childhood system in Oakland County.

Wigs 4 Kids

May 04, 2010

Wigs 4 Kids kicked off its Wellness Center Capital Campaign on Friday night in style – with a fundraiser called “The Right Combination” held at Art Van Furniture on 14 Mile Road in Warren. The event was celebrated by over 400 guests and raised nearly $17,000 for the campaign launch.

Wigs 4 Kids is a Michigan non-profit organization that provides comprehensive resources for children and teens dealing with challenges due to hair loss.  It has been operating from a 600 square foot facility for the past 6 years – and thanks to this campaign, will be opening a new 2900 square-foot facility on Harper Road north of 12 Mile Road in St. Clair Shores.  The opening of the Wigs 4 Kids Wellness Center is scheduled for June 5 and will offer multiple resources including educational, psychological, social, and professional services, all to help self-esteem challenges that many children face during hair loss.
