Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency – OLHSA

Posted by Lisa LaGrou February 14, 2013 Non-Profits, Oakland County

The OLHSA (Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency) is a private, non-profit agency dedicated to providing a litany of services to those in need in Oakland County and Livingston County. The OLHSA is a Michigan Community Action Agency.

Programs services and programs provided by the OLHSA include:

  • AIDS Services
  • Asset Building
  • Community Services
  • Early Childhood Services
  • Family Support Services
  • Food Programs
  • Housing and Energy Assistance
  • HR Services
  • Maternal Child Health Services
  • Older Adult Services
  • Prisoner Re-Entry Services

The OLHSA also has a free program that can provide energy-saving home improvements to local residents. Funding for the program is running out and applicants are needed. Weatherization, funded by the Department of Energy, provides energy efficiency home improvements to reduce energy consumption and lower utility bills. Improvements may include added insulation, furnace and hot water heater repair or replacement, caulking, and much more. The program serves low- to moderate-income residents: individuals, families, homeowners, mobile home owners, and renters alike.  Participants in this program will gain access to dozens of free programs provided by OLHSA to help our neighbors succeed, such as energy education classes, foreclosure counseling, utility assistance, Head Start preschool, and much more.

As of December 1, 2012 services to low-income residents including the food pantry, emergency utility assistance, Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and comprehensive needs assessments will no longer be available at the Ferndale location. In order to remain accessible to residents of Ferndale and surrounding neighborhoods, OLHSA is partnering with two other local nonprofits. OLHSA will have 3 new Ferndale centers to assist residents after December 1, 2012.

New Ferndale branches of OLHSA will include:

  • Accounting Aid Society at 1956 Hilton Road will offer OLHSA’s full array of Welcome Center services as of December 1, 2012.  Residents who have fallen on hard times can visit this office to discover all the ways OLHSA can help them create a path for success.
  • Renaissance Vineyard Church at 1841 Pinecrest Drive will become OLHSA’s food assistance hub in Ferndale.  Emergency food assistance will be available, along with a client-choice pantry where residents can play an active part in choosing their own food. This location will be up and running by January 2013.
  • Office space at 3029 Hilton Road will house OLHSA’s WIC Program beginning late January 2013.
