Papa Lou’s Pizza Pub and Grill Petoskey CLOSED

Papa Lou’s Pizza Pub and Grill Petoskey CLOSED. Papa Lou’s Pizza Pub & Grill is located in Downtown Petoskey at 317 East Lake Street. Papa Lou’s used to be Bear River Brewing Company, but recently changed its name. My husband and I visited it as Bear River Brewing company when we visited Petoskey for our one year wedding anniversary. We returned to Petoskey for our 15th anniversary and dined at Papa Lou’s. Papa Lou’s closed May 3, 2015 and became Duffy’s Garage and Grill.

Papa Lou’s Petoskey menu offers pizza, flavorful and unique pub creations, and even one food challenge – The CARB-R-ATE-ER…a serving of spaghetti and fettuccine, 3 meatballs, 3 sausage, bolognaise, marinara, and alfredo sauce, all in a large bread bowl oven baked with cheese! If one person eats it all in less than one hour, it’s free.

Other non-pizza items available at Papa Lou’s include entrees – Rolled Meat Lasagna, Hot Wing Sausage Alfredo, Fettucine Alfredo; sandwiches – burgers, grinders, quesadillas, wraps and pitas; salads; and tasty apps such as stuffed mushroom caps, buffalo chicken dip, bruschetta, coconut shrimp, steak tip kabobs.

The pizza at Papa Lou’s is fantastic, and is probably what people come here for the most. There are “build your own” options with all kinds of veggies and meats to choose from. I love that you can order garlic, artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, keilbasa, and capicolla… seriously awesome! Papa Lou’s also has specialty pizzas. The Landfill specialty pizza has just about everything on it and weighs almost 4 lbs. The Fat Greek Gyro pizza uses tza tziki for sauce. The Della Donna Pizza has basil infused olive oil, spinach, roasted red peppers, artichoke hearts, tomato, Feta & basil. And oddly enough, the Duffy’s Diablo BBQ Chicken Pizza has house made Diablo sauce, chicken, onions, bacon, corn, and ham. That’s only a few of them! But, of course, if you’re anything like my husband, you can always opt for the usual pepperoni and mushroom deal and get an awesome pizza.

The Papa Lou’s Pizza Pub and Grill Petoskey food is good, and the scenery makes the experience complete. There’s an outdoor two-level balcony patio that overlooks the bay. When weather permits, they have live music as well.

Our server was great. I know it’s hit or miss wherever you go, but I appreciated that our waiter picked up on my irritation of the table next to us that was full of drunken ladies that were cackling so loud that I couldn’t hear my husband speak. Our server offered to move us to another table without me asking. I like that kind of pro-activity.
