Bean Bag Chairs - Pottery Barn Kids

June 04, 2012

altI can't explain the attraction of the bean bag but I recall as a child loving bean bags and thinking that they were the coolest piece of furniture in the house. Now that I have kids, I was quickly reminded of this infatuation. Every trip to the local library began with a story time session on the bean bags.

When I told my daughter we would redecorate her room for her 8th birthday, I asked her what she would be interested in doing to her room. Aside from some minor changes, she strongly requested a bean bag chair.

I previously mentioned the common love for bean bags among children but what I did not mention was my recollection of somewhat disappointment over the misshapen vinyl covered blobs with holes that leaked tiny white Styrofoam balls all over the place. And really, were they even comfortable?

So now on to modern day... what are our options for a bean bag?

We turned to Pottery Barn Kids. Pottery Barn Kids has a huge selection of bean bags that vary in colors, patterns and sizes. My daughter got an over-sized bean bag in a unique color that fits her room theme.

Here's the bottom line. You will pay more for a bean bag chair from Pottery Barn Kids, but you will get a quality bean bag; something that could legitimately be seen as the coolest piece of furniture in the house in the child's eyes. You can even have the bean bag chair personalized by having your child's name sewn in for free.

When my daughter got home from school and saw that the bean bag had arrived, she ran to it with a big leap and jumped into a cozy ball of comfort. She was ecstatic. She is not the biggest fan of reading, but she immediately pulled out a good book, a box of bite sized cookies, and sat on her bean bag for an hour of bliss. And, when bed time came, she opted to trade in the mattress for the bean bag. It was just too cute. The bean bag chair is ultra-durable and the foam doesn't sag or lose its shape like the bean bag chairs from when I was little.

The bean bag chairs from Pottery Barn Kids will arrive in two parts: the cover and the insert. Once you get the bean bag stuffed, there is a lock on the zipper for safety for the younger ones.
