How to Heal a Scraped Knee

July 23, 2010

altIt's knee scraping season.  A scraped knee might look like a minor injury, but it can be painful and may seem like major trauma to your child. With my daughter, it's like the end of the world:).

Here are a few simple tips to help your child's knee scrape injury:

Like other minor wounds, when treating a scraped knee, you should first stop any bleeding by applying pressure to the wound with a bandage or clean cloth. Next, rinse the wound with water and wash the area around the wound with soap and water. Try to remove any dirt, rocks, or other debris from the wound.

"Birthday cake" solution for children with food allergies

June 24, 2010

altI was talking with a friend about my daughter who has Eosiniphilic Esophagitis, a food allergy disease leaving her unable to eat MULTIPLE foods. My daughter's 6th birthday was coming up and I was bummed that she would have another year without a birthday cake. The friend mentioned that she knew someone with the same issue and told me of her solution. This other mom made a tower "cake" using the gift boxes/presents. I was so

Tips - Breaking In a New Baseball Glove

April 26, 2010

altIt was time for my 7 year old to retire his old "kiddie" glove. My husband went out and bought him a nice Easton glove in time for his first baseball practice. It all came back to us. Not much has changed since we were little in terms of buying baseball mitts. You have to "break 'em in" yourself and what you buy off the shelf is too stiff to use on the field right away.

altRULES FOR THE TECHNOLOGY ROAD

by Tiffany Dziurman Stozicki

We are the first-generation Internet Parents. Our children are the first generation to be born and raised with the Internet as part of their everyday lives.

A call to action! Consider hosting an Internet Safety Night at your local school, in your neighborhood or with a scouting organization (scouts can even earn badges! See more on that topic below). There are many ready-made programs available to help you host this type of event. One program in particular is sponsored by K9 Web Protection and PTO Today and includes a step-by-step approach to developing and hosting a safety program for kids and parents.

How to solve a Rubik's cube

March 16, 2010

altI'm guessing most of us are about the same age and can remember when the Rubik's cube first came out. It was THE toy to have, yet once you got it, you messed it all up and then it was close to impossible to solve and no longer fun.

Probably about 80% of today's kids have a Rubik's cube and most probably have the same story to tell. They were bored with it quickly once they realized there was not much to do with it once it got all messed up.

January 21, 2010

altHere's a winning concept... get paid to lose weight. It works for the Biggest Loser tv series. Although, most contestants from the show will tell you they are not in it for the money; they are in it for a life change. But, who's to say the added incentive of a some extra cash doesn't help?
