Royal Park Hotel Gingerbread House 2009

The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit and Royal Park Hotel will reveal Rochester’s largest gingerbread house, on display in the lobby of the hotel from Nov. 17 through Jan 1 2010.

I took my kids to see the gingerbread house last year. They were thrilled, amazed, and really enjoyed the wonderful aroma! They also got a kick out of reading the ingredients list.

Ingredients used to create the Royal Park Hotel gingerbread house include: 220 cups of sugar, 300 lbs of gingerbread mix, 110 cups of powdered sugar, 90 gallons of water, 240 eggs, 200 lbs of holiday candy, 144 whirly lollipops, 400 candy canes and 580 hours of dedication to a wonderful holiday story worth sharing.

The luxury hotel has adopted The Salvation Army as its charity of choice for Christmas for the second consecutive year. Red Kettles will be stationed throughout the hotel; guests may sponsor one of the 1,500 “bricks” used to build the 8 foot high gingerbread house with a $10 minimum donation to The Salvation Army; and beginning Dec. 1, proceeds from desserts purchased at both The Brookshire restaurant and Commons Lounge will be donated to The Salvation Army. Bricks can be purchased at the Rochester Sugar Shoppe located inside the Royal Park Hotel lobby.
