Should Bad Halloween Weather Postpone Trick Or Treating?

Should Bad Halloween Weather Postpone Trick Or Treating in Metro Detroit in 2015? The Detroit area Halloween weather forecast looks grim for 2015 according to The Weather Channel – 60% chance of rain. Another rainy Metro Detroit Halloween ! Should local communities consider postponing Halloween trick-or-treat times until the weather clears up?

The ideal weather scenario for this year would be to have rainy weather on Devil’s Night / Angel’s Night in Detroit and have clear weather for Halloween.

It’s too bad local shopping centers don’t have indoor trick or treating at the malls any more like they used to. I worked at Eastland Center as Assistant Marketing Manager for the mall “back in the day” and the stores used to pass out candy during mall hours on Halloween. I know SEVERAL other malls like Lakeside used to do the same thing. It was a great option for bad weather Halloweens and for parents in the 80s and 90s who were frightened by the thoughts of tampered candy in their neighborhoods.

Last year when researching Trick or Treat times for our Trick or Treat Hours for Oakland County Page, I called several shopping centers (Great Lakes Crossing, Oakland Mall, Lakeside and others) and was informed that the days of indoor trick or treating at the malls on Halloween night went the way of the DoDo bird.

I remember when Warren, Michigan came under some fire 3 years ago for suspending Halloween trick-or-treat hours until November 1. Warren ultimately confused everyone. further by releasing last-ditch info that parents could opt to pass out candy to trick or treaters on October 31 or November 1. I doubt I’ll hear of any trick or treat cancellations this year but I’ll let you know if I do.

Here are some malls that offer indoor trick or treating in Metro Detroit for Halloween 2015….
