Programs for All Ages:

Jazz and Blues
Jo Serrapere, John Devine & Friends
Whether re-creating old songs from the Mississippi Delta or performing songs in her own confessional style, native Detroiter Jo Serrapere’s music stands as an original sound while always reflecting her love of American roots music. Her eclectic writing and performances fuse elements of various modern and traditional folk music, old-time and electric blues, roots rock, garage surf, swing and alt-country. John Devine, also a Detroit native, attended Master’s classes in classical guitar at Miami University. He went on to explore traditional blues styles and develop a love for the “race records” of the 1920’s and 30’s. John performed as a solo blues artist and songwriter before teaming up with Jo in 1998. Together, their depth of talent and musical styling is evident in their original songs, as well as classics from artists such as Mississippi John Hurt, Bessie Smith and Tom Waits.
Wednesday, April 16 at 6:30 in the Meeting Room
$5 admission payable in cash at the door – sponsored by the Friends of the Southfield Public Library and the Detroit Blues Society

John Latini Band
John Latini is a singing, songwriting, guitar-slinging, über-performing bluesman who personifies the best that the heartland and especially Michigan’s righteous rock history have to offer: an honest, straight-ahead, no-nonsense commitment to real songs about real people. In addition to being a serious crafter of clever, literate songs, Latini is the purveyor of a slick, blues-soaked, economically hard-driving guitar style— but more than anything he’s an intense, incandescent performer, with an emotional, testosterone-charged voice that the Ann Arbor Observer called “alternately celebratory, remorseful, seductive and dangerous.”
Wednesday, May 21 at 6:30 in the Meeting Room
