Summer in the Park – Campus Martius

Campus Martius Park officials and sponsors announced the Summer in the Park 2013 lineup, featuring more than 70 musical acts and entertainment stretching 10 weeks long. In addition to workday favorites like the Greektown Casino Mid-Day Music Series and 4th Fridays, this year’s free summer programming welcomes the Sunset in the City Thursdays, Movie Night in the D and more.

2013 Free Summer Programming at Campus Martius park includes:

Healthy Moves – Fridays from 5:30p-6:30p and Saturdays from 9:30a-10:30a – Yoga, running club, dance lessons and family fitness activities.

Faygo Movie Night In The “D” – Saturdays between 8:30p-11p
July 13 – Les Miserables
July 20 – Skyfall
July 27 – Silver Linings Playbook
August  – Life of Pi

Mid-Day Music Series – Mondays through Fridays June 10-August 24 – Lunchtime music series featuring the area’s best local/regional rock, R&B, blues, country, soul and pop bands. “The River Wednesdays” spotlight Detroit favorites.

Classical Tuesdays – July 9-30 from 7p-8:30p on Tuesday Nights – Orchestral ensembles perform classic selections in the beautiful park setting.

Sunset In The City – June 27, July 11-25, August 1-22 on Thursdays from 5:30p-8:30p – Wind down the work-day with top local talent, tasty cuisine and drink selections from the Fountain Bistro.

4th Fridays In The Park – June 28, July 26, August 23 from 5p-10:30p – Downtown summer music celebrations each Fourth Friday feature live music, food, drink and a hot new marketplace.

The Beach @ CMP – July 12-19, August 2-16 on Fridays from 5:30p-8:30p – Treat yourself to a casual after-work “beach bar” in downtown Detroit! Island sounds on the FRANKENMUTH BREWERY STAGE. Food & drinks.

The Market @ CMP – June 28-29, July 26-27, August 23-24 11a-9p on Fridays and 11a-6p on Saturdays – Fourth Fridays & Saturdays at downtown Detroit’s new Cadillac Square Market include a rhythmic mix of music and variety entertainment for the whole family.

Kidz Showz – June 22-29, July 13-27, August 3-17 on Saturdays from 2p-4p – Children’s theatre and dance performed on the park’s main stage followed by hands-on arts projects and games.
Saturday, June 22 – 2:00p-2:45p – “Beauty and the Beast” PROJECT DAYDREAM performs selections from their summer musical.
3p-4p – Crafts workshop with SUMARAH KAREN SMITH.
Saturday, June 29 – 2:00p-2:45p – “Cinderella, It’s OK to be Different”   
3p-4p – Make & Take activity led by ARTS & SCRAPS MOBILE.
Saturday, July 13 – 2:00p-2:45p – Ballet Folklorico Moyocayani-Izel – An amazing ensemble from Southwest Detroit performing traditional dance from the eight regions of Mexico.
3p-4p – Live animal interactive with WILD LIFE SAFARI.
Saturday, July 20 – 2:00p-2:45p – Magic Carpet Theatre Imagination is the key to this creative storytelling trio.
3p-4p – Make & Take or Game
Saturday, July 27 – 2:00p-2:45p – Heritage Works – African drum and dance performance with audience engagement, traditional rhythms and fun.
3p-4p – Make & Take activity led by ARTS & SCRAPS MOBILE.
Saturday, August 3 – 2:00p-2:45p – Reg Pettibone’s Authentic Native American Program Dance, Song, Narration and a display of artifacts sharing cultural traditions and a strong emphasis on the environment.
3-4p – Make & Take or Game
Saturday, August 10 – 2:00p-2:45p – Ballet Renaissance – From their home in the Detroit Opera House, this company of dancers delight and surprise.
3p-4p – Crafts workshop with SUMARAH KAREN SMITH.
Saturday, August 17 – 2:00p-4:00p – PuppetArt Theatre – Detroit’s premier puppet masters present “KOLOBOK”, a Russian folktale about the adventures of a little Butterball named Kolobok who was baked by an elderly childless couple. This story is well known in America as The Gingerbread Man.
3p-4p – Ice Cream Social (TBD)

Theater In The Park – July 10-31, August 7-14 Wednesdays from 5:30p-8:30p – Special presentations on the park lawn from Shakespeare-in-the-Park to choral sensations to dance productions.

Lunchtime in Paradise – June 10-August 22 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30a-1:30p – Live music performances enliven this pocket park with  the sounds of jazz, Broadway, R&B and the blues in downtown’s Paradise Valley district. Recorded sounds fill the air on Monday/Wednesday/Friday.

Paradise Arts Festivals – June 22, July 20, August 24 Saturdays from 12p-9p – A monthly cultural arts festival with a focus on visual arts, dance and music — plus specialty acts, eclectic retail and food/drink specials.

Woodward Festival – August 24 from noon-10:30p – A day-long celebration of the arts with food  & fun and special entertainment.

Downtown Summerfest – Friday August 23 and Saturday, August 24 from noon-10:30p –

Lunchtime Acoustics – Mondays & Fridays from noon-2p June 10-August 23 – Detroit’s finest singer/songwriters perform acoustic music for downtown workers and visitors at lunchtime.

Summer Time Food @ CMP – June 10 through August 23 Mondays through Fridays from 10a-2p – Downtown Detroit’s new Cadillac Square Food Market presents a variety of unique food options for the lunchtime crowd at Campus Martius.   

Games at Campus Martius Park at Cadillac Square – June through October – Mondays-Fridays from noon-7p, Saturdays from noon-4p – Ping Pong, Bean Bag Toss, Washer Toss, Bocce Ball, Checkers, Chess and Backgammon.
