Sunrise Thai Madison Heights review, pics, menu info, and hours, formerly known as Sunny Thai. Sunrise Thai is located on John R road south of 12 mile in Madison Heights. After seeing the rave reviews, I added it to my Thai food tour.

Sunrise Thai is a small dine in/carry out Thai restaurant in a shopping plaza. There are eight tables inside. The decor is dated so it appears that the take out business is more of an attraction than eating in.

The Sunrise Thai menu is very typical and includes all the favorites. Even though I could smell the inviting aroma of sautéed garlic as they were preparing an order of garlic fried rice, I stayed with my staple Pad Thai so I could make an honest comparison and assessment of Sunny Thai.
I ordered it medium and the heat was right on and exactly what I was expecting. The food itself was probably some of the best I’ve had. I look for freshness and flavor…and Sunrise Thai Madison Hts had both in spades.
The noodles were the best texture I’ve had. I would have guessed that they just boiled them up with my order. The shrimp also seemed freshly sautéed, not at all over cooked or re-heated.
The flavor was intense in a good way. Probably the most flavorful Pad Thai that I’ve ever had. Another thing I look for is the “sauce.” Sometimes we’ll get a take-out for Thai and there will be a small pool of sauce at the bottom. I don’t care to have the food swimming. Sunny Thai had a nice balance… the dish was not dry and it wasn’t swimming.
The portion sizes are great. I sometimes worry that when dining in, you get a smaller serving. At Sunny Thai, I still had to get a to-go box for my left overs.
If you have food allergy and/or sensitivity issues, I wouldn’t trust Sunny Thai to get it right for you. They seemed a bit lost and misunderstood when I asked some questions.
Finally, the overall pricing was slightly lower than what I’ve seen at other Thai restaurants. Gotta love that.
