Tips and Products to Prevent Head Lice

Posted by Lisa LaGrou February 1, 2012 Family Health

altThe buzz around my kids’ elementary school is that a large number of children are staying home due to head lice this season. Winter is one of the top times of the year when it comes to lice. The hat-swapping and cold conditions are perfect for lice. Other than reminding children not to share clothes, there are some tips and products to help prevent head lice in kids.

Adie Horowitz of Licenders dot com suggests tossing backpacks, hats and jackets in the dryer for 20 minutes at least once a week during peak lice seasons.

Horowitz also recommends checking kids frequently for head lice as lice is much easier to get rid of if it’s discovered at an early stage.

Our friends at Sweet and Sassy Salon in Novi offer the anti-head lice product Fairy Tales Hair Care. Fairy Tales Hair Care Products are a unique blend of pure rosemary, citronella, oils, lavender and tea tree extracts that act as a natural deterrent to lice and other insects. Sweet and Sassy also offers lice removal kits.

Other head lice deterrents from the Sweet and Sassy Salon:

  • Rosemary Repel® Shampoo
  • Rosemary Repel® Conditioner
  • Rosemary Repel® Leave-in Conditioning Spray
  • Styling Gel
  • Rosemary Repel Spray and shield
  • Lice Goodbye Nit Removal System with plastic comb
