Trader Joe’s Pop Tarts Review
Trader Joe’s Pop Tarts Review – Trader Joe’s Organic Frosted Toaster Pastries vs Kellogg’s Pop Tarts. Trader Joe’s has an organic version of Kellogg’s Frosted Strawberry Pop Tarts. I decided to test the Trader Joe’s pop tarts and compare taste, nutritional facts, ingredients and price to see how they stack up against Kellogg’s Pop Tarts.
The Trader Joe’s pop tarts look a lot like Kellogg’s Pop Tarts but they’re slightly less dense. Kellogg’s Pop Tarts weigh over 14.5 oz while the Trader Joe’s version weighs in at just 11 oz. Missing from the Trader Joe’s pop tarts are the colorful confetti sprinkles that cover the white frosting.
Organic vs Non Organic
Trader Joe’s Frosted Toaster Pastries are certified organic by the USDA. Noticeably missing from the Trader Joe’s version ingredients is High Fructose Corn Syrup (replaced with cane juice and natural flavors). Sea salt is used in the Trader Joe’s pop tarts for the sodium. Both contain “real fruit” but the Kellogg’s disclaimer is that the fruit filling is “made with equal” to 10% fruit. Kellogg’s Pop Tarts are far from organic and never claimed to be.
It’s natural to think that the Trader Joe’s version of the Kellogg’s Pop Tart would be much healthier because of the organic label but I found many instances in the Nutritional Facts that suggest that organic doesn’t always mean healthier. Here’s how Kellogg’s Pop Tarts stack up against Trader Joe’s Organic Frosted Toaster Pastries in terms of diet:

There’s a noticeable difference in taste between Kellogg’s Pop Tarts and the Trader Joe’s pop tarts. It’s not a drastic difference, but it’s pretty easy to decide which is which in a blind taste test. I prefer the taste of the fruit in the Trader Joe’s toaster pastries to Kellogg’s. The frosting on the Trader Joe’s pop tart is kind of an afterthought and I liked the Kellogg’s frosting and texture better. Overall, I actually think the Trader Joe’s tart tastes better but my kids enjoy the Kellogg’s Pop Tarts more. It’s up to you weigh the pros and cons of the price, taste, and how much organic means to your family when deciding.
