There are plenty of fun things to do in and around Metro Detroit this weekend. This list will try to highlight some of the events - big and small - for kids and families. I’m going to be using this article to post events and activities that are either free or at least family affordable.

Rochester Hills Michigan Weekend Event: Arbor Day Commemorative Tree Planting
Veteran’s Memorial Pointe (Livernois just south of Avon Rd)
The Forestry Division conducts an annual tree-planting ceremony with the Mayor presiding and often a local scouting or youth group in attendance. Different sites are selected each year for the Arbor Day tree; Borden, Spencer, and Avondale Parks, and City Hall grounds have all been chosen in the past.

Novi Michigan Weekend Event: Lego Kidsfest
Suburban Collection Showplace (46100 Grand River Ave, Novi, MI)
The LEGO® KidsFest national tour stops in Michigan at the Suburban Collection Showplace bringing all of the creative hands-on, minds-on fun of LEGO building and experiences together in this activity- and entertainment-packed family event for children of all ages and builders of all skills and interests. Sessions are: Friday from 4p-8:30p, Saturday from 9a-1:30p, Saturday from 3p-7:30p, Sunday from 9a-1:30p or Sunday from 3p-7:30p. Farmington Hills Michigan Weekend Event: Frogs & Fun
Heritage Park Nature Center (24915 Farmington Road, Farmington Hills, MI)
Join a naturalist and explore the wetlands of Heritage Park to listen and identify native frogs and toads. Kids will complete data sheets like real scientists and volunteer to take part in the seasonal Heritage Park Frog and Toad Surveys. For kids ages 6 & up. Dress for weather. 8th Annual Shades of Pink Foundation: A Walk at the Zoo. Registration will begin at 7:00 a.m. The Big Top Tent will open at 7:30 a.m. and will feature raffles, shopping, face painting and breakfast snacks, along with team and sponsor recognition. The opening ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. followed by the walk at 9 a.m. Adults (18 and up) are $35 and children (6-17) are $25. Little ones (2-5 years old) are $10 and those under the age of 2 are free – includes zoo admission and snacks. All GreenFest activities are free with Zoo admission.

Detroit Michigan Weekend Event: Stars on Ice
Joe Louis Arena
Meryl Davis and Charlie White returned from the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, with the United States’ first ice dancing gold medal in history.
