There are plenty of fun things to do in and around Metro Detroit this weekend. This list will try to highlight some of the events - big and small - for kids and families. I’m going to be using this article to post events and activities that are either free or at least family affordable.

Stop by the Village of Rochester Hills for free Easter Bunny visits at the gazebo. Bring your camera and take some great pics! Easter Bunny visits at The Village are FREE.

Royal Oak Michigan Weekend Event: Bunnyville
Detroit Zoo (8450 W. 10 Mile Rd, Royal Oak, MI 48067, 248.541.5717)
Bunnyville features treats, games, crafts, live entertainment, animal enrichment activities, zookeeper talks and much more. Bunnyville visitors are encouraged to bring a canned or other non-perishable food item to be donated to Gleaners Community Food Bank. Each guest with a food donation will receive a reduced admission price of $8, parking not included. Admission for Detroit Zoological Society Members is free, but Members are encouraged to bring food donations. Bunnyville activities will feature a golden egg hunt with great prizes, the Jelly Bean Jamboree, Funny Bunny Games, springtime crafts, whisker painting and photo opportunities with the Easter Bunny (available for purchase).

South Lyon Michigan Weekend Event: Community Easter Egg Hunt
South Lyon Senior Center (700 Reynold Sweet Parkway, South Lyon, MI)
Children 10 & under are welcome! Egg hunt will be divided into 3 age groups: 0-3, 4-6, & 7-10. Registration for Bike begins at 9:30 a.m. (4 Boys & 4 Girls bikes). Egg Hunt will begin at 10 a.m. Come inside immediately following the hunt for bike giveaway and refreshments! Rain or shine. Invite friends and family.

15,000 marshmallows will be dropped from a helicopter to be turned in for a prize! Kids are divided into age groups; only one marshmallow is needed to exchange for prize; this is not a competition. Davisburg Michigan Weekend Event: Easter Egg Hunt
Come out to Mill Pond Park’s 16th Annual Easter Egg Hunt and meet the Easter Bunny himself! Children will collect bright, colorful, candy or toy fi lled eggs. Pictures with the Easter Bunny may be taken with your camera for no additional charge. Pictures will be available for $3*. Prize eggs may be found during the hunt. Children must bring their own Easter basket. Egg hunt will be held rain or shine, so please dress weather appropriate. Parking is limited. Egg hunts will begin promptly at 11am and 2pm. PLEASE ARRIVE A HALF AN HOUR EARLY! Registration is required by 5pm on Thursday, April 17th. TICKETS WILL NOT BE SOLD THE DAY OF THE EVENT! Oakland Mall Center Court (412 W. 14 Mile Road, Troy, MI 48083)
Visits with the Easter Bunny are free. Kids visiting the Easter Bunny receive a free surprise gift. Photo packages are available with different pricing options. hours are 11a-8p M-Sa, noon-6p on Sundays 3/29-4/15 and 10a-9p 4/16-4/19. The Easter Bunny takes a half-hour break at 1p & 4:30 each day.

Butterflies! Exhibit
Oakland Mall (JC Penny Court Lower Level)
Admission to this interactive exhibit is $3 (includes free admission for child 10 and under). Visitors can tour the butterfly house and interact with over 275 live butterflies in their special habitat daily. They can also take a photo with a butterfly, create butterfly crafts, view a life-cycle kiosk, and adopt-a-butterfly to take home (for an additional fee). Event held through April 19. Exhibit times are Mondays – Saturdays from noon – 8pm and Sundays noon – 5pm.

Enjoy the evening air as you head into Heritage Park after dark at a Full Moon Friday Night Hike. Listen for nocturnal animals, observe the night sky, and heighten your senses along the way!
