Zaa! Simply Unique Pizza opened recently in Rochester Hills. I did not know what it was at first and thought it was maybe just another pizza joint. Thankfully, I was wrong and by a long shot.
If you have not heard of Tomatoes Apizza (“One of the 25 best pies on Earth” -GQ) in Farmington Hills, take a moment to read up on it with my review. In a nutshell, the owner of Zaa! worked at Tomatoes Apizza and decided to open his own restaurant, taking with him what he’s learned about gourmet pizza making.
Zaa!’s style is an ultra thin crust pizza topped with the best ingredients around.
Don’t let the top-notch taste and quality fool you when it comes to price. Zaa! is extremely affordable. I can’t see why anyone would pay more to go to Pizza Hut’s lunch buffet when Zaa!’s noon – 3p lunch buffet has all you can eat pizza, salad, breadsticks, pasta and soft drinks for $5. The buffet lunches that both Tomatoes Apizza and Zaa! offer may be the best bargains in Oakland County.

I took a moment to chat with the owner, Michael Rosenberg. Michael studied in Chicago, came to Michigan, worked at Tomatoes Apizza for three years, and then opened Zaa! If you live far from Rochester Hills, you may not have to wait long to experience Zaa!’s at a location near you. Rosenberg hopes to open more locations, possibly in Royal Oak, Ferndale, Birmingham, and Ann Arbor…
Tomatoes Apizza cooks their pies with coal and brick ovens. I didn’t see the same setup at Zaa! Michael explained that the previous business in this location used a conveyor belt. So, he experimented and tested it out until he got the exact taste he was looking for.
