Clarkston Weekend Events / Oakland County Parks Events – Early Childhood Hour Out (ECHO)

Parents, grandparents, nannies and caregivers: Bring your little ones to Wint Nature Center for a caregiver-guided hour of activities, fun and friendship with local families on Thursdays. Participate in a caregiver-led activity provided by nature center staff. Enjoy coffee, tea and conversation with other caregivers. Strengthen community connections –conversation for adults; social interaction for babies, toddlers and young children. Optional activities may take place outside, dress for the weather. This program is free and no preregistration is necessary, although park entry fee applies for those without a vehicle permit. Caregivers must supervise children at all times. Siblings are welcome. During this catch-and-release event, there will be prizes for the longest fish caught in each session. No fishing license is required as this event will be held during the DNR Free Fishing Weekend. The event will be held weather permitting. All ages and abilities are welcome. Adaptive fishing equipment will be available. Sessions will run from 9-9:45 a.m. for those 15 years old and younger and 10:15-11 a.m. for participants ages 16 and older. Sessions are limited to 20 participants each. Cost is $10/person. Day at the Fair will feature a Sea Lion Show, petting zoo, racing pigs, Miracle of Birth Barn and horse and livestock shows from 10a-1p July 17 at Springfield Oaks County Park during the annual Oakland County Fair. This event is free for individuals with disabilities. Free carnival rides, courtesy of Big Rock Amusements, will be from 11a-1p for individuals with disabilities and one caregiver. Oakland County Parks Pet Vaccinations clinics for dogs and cats are low-cost. Pets must either be leashed or brought in a carrier to the events. No appointments are needed to get your pet vaccinated, obtain preventative care, receive microchipping and/or purchase a dog license. Vaccinations, heartworm tests, flea prevention and dewormer are available. For pet safety, bring dogs on a short leash with a snug collar and cats in a carrier. Walk with or against the flow of the 1,000-foot River Ride after the park closes for a unique workout. This adults-only program is for all abilities and fitness levels. All participants must walk; no floating will be allowed. Four punch cards are available, each valid for a specific day of the week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Each punch card is good for eight visits on that day only. If participants wish to walk two or more days a week, they must purchase multiple punch cards. Punch cards are $50 each and available for purchase through June 28, 2024 or until capacity is sold out. To purchase, register online, call 248-858-0916 weekdays during business hours. Enjoy a day on the playground and other fun activities during the free Come Out and Play event. During this special day, day camps and members of the public can enjoy free access to the zip line, water and non-water inflatables and the climbing tower. Children must be at least 45 pounds and 42 inches tall and wear closed-toe shoes for the zip line. A waiver form is also required. Shoes are required for the climbing tower and socks are required for the non-water inflatables. For the water inflatables, guests may want to bring a swimsuit or change of clothes. 15,000 marshmallows are dropped from a helicopter. Participants then need to collect only one marshmallow that can be exchanged for a prize. There are four drop zone groups: Children ages 4 years and younger; children ages 5-7; and children ages 8-12. The drop for individuals with disabilities will begin at 11:30a. A new homeschool theme each month. Homeschool sessions are adapted for two age groups: Ages 6-9 and ages 10-13. Cost is $10/child/session.
